Need replacement earpads for Sony FM/AM Walkman... (by 2 users)

posted by RogerT on Mar 20, 2008

Hi, folks....My radio is a few years old now, and the foam earpads have deteriorated. I've been searching around, so far without luck, in finding replacement pads.

The pads are oval-shaped, slightly narrower at the bottom than the top.

I'd surely appreciate it if you could guide me to a source for these earpads.

Thank you,

Roger

Thank you, sy-hugo for the specific information. I got to the Sony Parts site, mostly blank, with the search function. I typed in the part number 81781, as shown in your link, and received this message: "We are sorry your information was not found."

Back when I did my research (date of my first post here),I spoke to two different Sony Parts employees, neither of whom could find any listing for my headphones.

Your info was a real ray of hope, so I began climbing up the vertical walls of the deep well I was in over the ear pad thing, only to plummet back to the bottom when Sony courteously dismissed my inquiry. ;-)

If you got your pads some time ago, that probably explains it. My radio is more than a few years old, and the foam deteriorated more from aging than from wear.

BUT....I'll stay mildly hopeful until I hear back from you, just in case I missed something here, or you have another angle for me to try.

Many thanks, sy-hugo.

Roger

OK, sy-hugo, and thanks for hanging with me on this. I typed your link as one line, and did reach a mostly-blank Sony Parts site. Typed in the part number in the search function, but got the negative answer.

Three things about your link: (1) type as two lines, not one; (2) Is the part number 81781? It appears to be. (3) What is that little mark, kind of like an e, at the very end of the link? My keyboard doesn't have that.

I'm pretty sure I can do it again your way (2 lines), as long as that last mark in the link isn't important.

Much grass for your kind assistance, sy-hugo.

Hi, sy-hugo,

I got right to the order page per your directions. However, the page didn't function correctly, in that it gave me a page not found when I hit checkout, and when I went through the process again, it just kept adding to the two pads, until I, after trying again and again, wound up with 12! Update button also give me a page not found, etc, etc. There is a phone number to call, and the part number is displayed on the order page, so I think a phone call should do it. Tomorrow. Roger

sy-hugo, many thanks, my friend! Got through nicely on the phone, made the order, NP, and the pads are on the way.

I absolutely crashed when I tried this myself via the net. You are Merlin, perhaps Houdini, for getting the right addy, etc, and I am most grateful.

Fix-ya wouldn't let be copy and paste a link that long, but this shorter one above should work, I hope.

Sony does have the ear pads. $8.99 each, or $17.98 for both.

Sony is selling the refurbished complete SRF-H4 Walkman for $14.99, and, I assume, that includes a fresh set of ear pads.

I wrote a note to them re this anomaly, and got a machine response giving me a phone number where I could order the $17.98 ear pads.

I quit banging my head at about 2:20pm today.

I mean, $17.98 ear pads better come with large fries!

So I got my answer, and I'm going to glue on some foam myself.

I thought of just ordering the refurbished Walkman, then asking Sony to remove the ear pads and send only them to me, resulting in a lower shipping charge, but a custom order would never make it with a company that only uses machine answers.
