Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Audiovox PVD80 I bought this portable dvd player in the USA and want to use it in the UK. How do I plug it in? It says 9V-12V on the back and I was told if I try to plug it in and charge it up it would blow up! I see I need some kind of transformer for the power but don't know what. Can you help? Thanks Anya M. Applebee

The UK has a standard mains voltage supply of 220 to 240 v AC. So you need a 240 v in to 12v DC out regulated power supply, probably require a secondary current of 2.5 amps. Just be careful that the connector polarity is wired correctly. Farnel /cpc sell the adaptor linked below in the uk [phone to order- pay by credit card] which looks good value and will probably do the job:

Looking to get a new powercord for my dvd player

you wont neccesarily get one easily or cheaply for that make but you should be able to get a universal one. you need to look at the voltage usually 9v or 12v on portable dvd's then look at the amps to make sure the universal has enough amperage. if you are unsure on the amps then if you by a universal that goes upto 12v and rated upto 1200ma you should be ok on a player like this

No longer loading dvds

You may have a bad laser. First, make sure the laser assy. travels back and forth easily, then make sure the table the disc sits on spins freely. If it still isn't reading, load a disc and immediatly flip it over to it's top and see if it works. Working or not, still a bad laser.

Audio on portable DVD player decreasing.

Could be a blown speaker or the amp circuitry driving the speaker is bad. One way you can get around this is to run the audio through the auxillary output of your dvd through either headphones, your car stereo through a line input, or hook up a pair of external speakers to the player.

A lot of times the quality of the audio in the built in speaker on portable DVD players is not of good quality to begin with. The above suggestions should correct it.

the 12 volt car adapter only puts 9v to the dvd player. It is poorly marked. It really only runs on 9v. If you plug 12v into it it will smoke... thats what mine did.

http://www.unitedsale.com/product_info.php?products_id=17976 This link is for an Audiovox DVD player, but it may fit yours or else you can cut off the plug on your existing power adapter and reconnect it to this one. Also try searching Google for "AC adapter 9V 3A".
