Question about Philips Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi I have just set up

Hi

I have just set up a Phillips SLV3220 digi sender for a portable tv (with indoor aerial) which is only about 24 feet away from the source. The picture and sound are great but the remote won't work at all on tv2.

Advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Ok, have solved it!

I hadn't placed the "magic eye" in the right position on the Sky digi box.

Now have Sky in my kitchen, a good picture, sound and the remote works great!

We have an indoor antenna and was wondering if we need a converter box to bring in digital channels?

Hi Virginia, we went through the analog/ digital changeover
here recently and it is all fairly straight forward really. If your tv is digital then you need no converter box. If your tv is analog then you will need a cnverter box. Some tvs are dual system compliant so only need to be switched over
The difference a good quality aerial makes to digital broadcast reception is great, I currently use amplified indoor aerials and they are adequate for our two sets but a good extenal aerial would be far better.
In direct answer to your question I believe you need an amplified indooe digital aerial if you eant decent digital reception.
An old analog aerial may not do the jov ....but you can always try it before buying any new equipment

Tip

Digitial channel tune in and set up

if you have a problem getting digital channels (uk) find local channel number digital uk can help enter tuning menu go to manuial tune on tv or digi box. it will ask for channel number start with highest number pess ok or search repeat for each channel number normal 4or 5 depends on aera if still not getting all channels put aerial lead which come for aerial into tv bypassing any equipment such as vcr/dvd recorder then start again if still not all channels may need aerial upgrade .if yo get all channels connect vcr/dvd if some channnels disappear need to reset RF out on vcr/dvd remove aerial .connect vcr/dvd via scart reset RF out on vcr/dvd this can be found in vcr/dvd set up menu reconnect all leads should now work ok
Note do not set RF out to any digi channel numer

I have a brand new technika tv 216/54g. It has freeview built in. I have a brand new indoor digital amplified aerial also technika but I cant get it to pick up any stations. Do I need anything else? please...

Hi there,

You don't necessarily need anything else, but you may not have a strong enough signal to pick up the digital/freeview channels using an indoor aerial. It could also be that the indoor aerial is not correctly aligned.

If the signal strength is lower than approx. 50%, the TV may detect them during the automatic channel scan but it wont store them. When the signal strength for any digital channel is 50% or lower it's more or less unwatchable - the picture would be constantly breaking-up or freezing and the audio drops out continually. Trying to scan for channels using an indoor aerial is rather hit and miss. Numerous attempts may be necessary before you get any channels.

Assuming you have a roof aerial, it is far easier to temporarily connect the TV to a fixed aerial point while you run the automatic channel scan. The TV will store all the channels and you can then move it to it's permanent location and connect the indoor aerial. You can then adjust the indoor aerial with the channels already stored until you find a location for the aerial where you have a good signal.

Doing it this way also eliminates the possibility of a fault with the TV and confirms that you are performing the channel scan correctly. If the TV is connected to a fixed aerial point and you are still unable to receive or store any channels, then it's likely that you are performing the channel scan incorrectly or there is a fault with the TV.

Please try scanning your channels using a known working fixed aerial point. If you are still unable
to receive any channels - or you don't have any fixed aerial points - please post back for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

How do i set up atv without inbuilt digital a seperate digital box and a video recorder?the tv digital tuner and video all have scart leads.Should the aerial cable go to the video or digital box?

Aerial to digi box first then video then tv (not strictly necessary)
Depending on what you want to do with the vcr and the digi minimum scart connection is
digi to video - video to tv

Hii i cannot connect my tv to the dvd player , can u tell me how can i fix this problem

I wrote this down to connect at Digital Freeview box to TV and to Video. It works for me on a portable TV and I am a grannie so if I can do it ............ I did buy one of those scart boxes which allows 4 scart leads just like an electric plug multi socket, very cheap price. Hope this helps and Happy New Year.

Take the scart connector box lead to the digi box.

The scart from the TV and the scart from the Video both go to scart box.

TV aerial itself not plugged in or used.

Bottom video aerial to right digi hole
Another aerial lead (not aerial) from TV hole to left digi hole

Do not understand how to set up my alba digi box to my television and recieve basic digital channels help!

Hi.

Ok
1) plug aerial in to the antena in sock on freeview box.
2) plug short aerial type lead in to rf out socket on freeview & antena in socket on TV.
3) plug A scart lead in to the socket marked TV on freeview box & the other end of scart in to one of the scart sockets on the TV.
If your TV has more than one socket plug it into the one marked AV1 or AV2.

4) plug in freeview to mains electricity & switch box on.
5) Turn TV on freeview should appear automatically if it doesnt look on your TV remote for A button marked AV or a button with either A circle or square with an arrow going through it you may need to press this several times until you see digi picture come up.
Thats basically it but do check that you dont need a new aerial etc to be able to get digi signal in your area.
