Problem with tomtom one please help: need it for travelling sales job
When trying to power on my tomtom, after the initial hands logo, it shows a picture of the gps and an enormous X flashes on the screen continuously. Cannot get off that screen. what should i do? To make matters worse, I can't find either the manual or the original software disc. Please help, I'm in sales and travel frequently....

First you need to reset the tom tom by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, it will restart itself, from there it should get passed the tom tom logo.
If it does not do the job, then you need to connect your gps to a computer, then back up the files then you restore the files back on it after formating the gps.
Miss! please consider of reloading of software along with check of memory options and if you have warranty then it is better for you re look each and every thing inside which are discoverable during repairing situation only
Letting the battery run down will not fix it, so recharge it. I suspect your maps have become corrupted or at worst deleted. Reinstall your maps from the CD or by contacting TOMTOM and quoting your licence number for a download. Leaving GPS in car subject to extreme heat will danage the card and often the maps. Gloveboxes are not exempt either as they often reach over 50C when car is left in the sun. ( assuming it is summer wherever you are)
My Rider 1 is showing the same sympton. Was working fine now I can't get past the initial "Tomtom" screen.
Does it power up when connected to the mains charger?- No, need to prod reset and then turn on manually.
Does it switch on when connected to the bike cradle? - No, only sign of life if by manually turning on but only get as far as the Tomtom screen, not the main menu.
"My tom tom wonts switch on. I have reset it and still it comes on with a boom boom noise and shows the 2 hands on the screen. It also shows the loading bar at the bottom, but then it just freezes and nothing happens. can anyone help please ASAP"
Sound as though your Map data card is corrupt. Remove the SD card and check it with your computer using a card reader. Backup the SD card onto your computer. You can run either chkdsk or go to the drive letter under 'My Computer' right click and select properties, then tools, then check now. You can also try starting the Tomtom with the SD card out of the unit. It should show a picture of the Tomtom with a 'X'. You can also try copying the data on the SD card to another SD card.
