In Toughbook computers there is an option to lock your hard disk(the contents of the HDD cannot be accessed when it is connected to any other computer than its native one). First, you should check that by connecting the HDD in its native computer i.e the one having 600mhz. Press F2 when you start it up and chnage the option to lock the HDD in the bios setup screen.
There is one more problem. The operating system installed in the HDD is having the hardware configuration of your CF 28 600mhz. So, it won't work in a computer with different hardware configuration.
Hopes this will provide you with the cure for your problem

Sure...use F2 when you start it up, and make certain that drive is listed on the bios setup screen..and also is in proper boot sequence order..you may need to revise the bios to see that other drive..this is not always a simple matter

How to wipe clean CF-19 hard drive

If the Panasonic Toughbook CF19 has a Hard Disk Drive,
then you should be trying to wipe it by booting from an
external USB Optical (cdrom) drive.
You have to enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 function key,
and set USB CDROM as the first bootable device.
Then save and exit the bios.
The external optical (cdrom) will now boot
with the proper bootable media.
If you have a HIREN bootable CD then one of the
tools will allow you to WIPE and RE-FORMAT the
internal hard disk drive.
Good Luck.

How to select a boot device

The Panasonic Toughbook CF51 may not be able to boot
from a USB external Hard Drive. When you press the F2
function key and go to BOOT devices, I believe that USB HDD
is NOT an option. However, when the drive is plugged-in
and you start the CF51, press the ESC key immediately.
All boot devices should be shown and you might be able
to boot from that menu. If not, then it is NOT bootable.
Good Luck!

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 Mk III P3 1Ghz 512Mb Ram , I have installed a brand new DVD rom Drive in the MP Bay it reconises in bios also reads upon first post however, will not boot from any os cd...

Some bios menu allows you to boot from USB. (Some are locked this option by makers.)

Run safety mode and try again to see whether your DVD rom is working.

Best way will be go to device manager; go to properties of DVD rom; go to driver and click roll back driver.

If this is not working (in case), uninstall driver and reinstall it.

Had vista i removed with a boot disk and formated the harddrive now wont see hard drive

If the hard drive has been formatted it will not boot unless you install an operating system. If you had wanted to format and leave the disk able to boot the correct command is Format "Disk Letter":/S

Is a Panasonic CF 27 Toughbook able to have Windows XP installed on it or would it create conflict? Presently, it has Windows 2ooo installed.

This is taken from Microsofts website directly...

These are the minimum requirements for basic functionality. Actual requirements vary, depending on the system configuration and the programs and features that you choose to install. If you are installing Windows XP over a network, you may need additional available hard-disk space.

The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:
  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
  • Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
  • Sound card
  • Speakers or headphones
And from what I have seen (THANK YOU for the model #) your system SHOULD be able to run it at bare minimum.

Can I install a hard drive with out caddy or run the machine from an external drivve?

Yes, you can.
Connect your hard drive and installed the operating system and drivers,
That's it,Connect the hard driver whenever you want to boot from that Hard Drive.and change the BIOS to boot from that hard drive in Hard drive boot priority.

Why not you considered booting from a USB Pen Drive. It's most flexible than booting from an external Hard Drive.

Here are fews link on how to make a USB bootable Windows.

I GOT THIS MESSAGE TODAY PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE WHEN I TRIED TO BOOT MY ACER ASPIRE 5630 THIS MORNING. IS THERE A QUICK FIX FOR THIS? EXITING BROADCOM PXE ROM OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

It is trying to bbot up using network boot because it cannot find OS on the hard drive, you can turn off the network in the BIOS setup page, but more likely you have problem with the hard drive or the OS is corrupted.

Hard drive error

You need an adapter is the hard drive is IDE, but not if it's Sata. You can probably connect it internally to almost any desktop computer, and then copy the data to a flash drive or other medium.

I can help you with the technicalities, but you'll have to find a friend who has a computer you can "borrow".

Alternatively, you can probably find a local computer shop that can provide this as a service, though you'd certainly have to pay.
