Battery cover replacement for the Dimage Z2

We have the same problem as cujimmy from July 19,2007. Help! I have to replace the battery compartment door. I have purchased the new part but I cannot see how to fit it; all the parts seem to interlink. Very grateful for any advice or help on this. Thank you.

To get to the battery door you must remove the back, to remove the back you must remove the top of the grip (shutter button and dial and WT lever). remove top of grip... 1) starting at the bottom of the plastic strip (along the front edge of the grip) that holds the shutter button, slide upward, the strip will bow outward and after about 3/16", the bottom's free. the only other thing holding it in place is a bit of double-stick tape and a similar clip at the top. CAREFUL! there's a spring under the button that's easy to lose. 2) Inside the battery case, front battery, all the way at the top, there's a tiny phillips screw, pull it. 3) peel away the right side rubber grip right by where your thumb meets the W on the W/T lever. 1st hole you'll see is a springy clip, keep going around to the right til you find a screw. pull that. 4) back to the springy clip hole, pushing inward on the finger, the top will come off straight up. leave it hanging, you just need it out of the way so the back can come loose. remove the back... 5) bottom of camera, remove 2 screws nearest the CE label and one outboard of the rearmost battery. 6) viewfinder cap: 4 screws, skinny on top, fatter on the bottom. the cap pops off. 7) lcd cover/frame: pull away from viewfinder(top) edge about 1/4 inch. the bottom's held by fingers; they need to slide to the left 1/8", then that's off. 8) remove screw @ lowerleft of lcd. now the whole back will slide rearward. 1st thing loose is memory door, remove it. slide the back off, out of the way. you'll now see that the battery door is held on by two hinge pins, not one continuous. the rearmost pin will slide left into the memory cover area, and the door will flex enough to remove it toward the front. trickiest part of reassembly is the spring under the shutter button. balance the spring on the camera, put the button into place. hold it in place with the screwdriver through eye of plastic strip, leaves plenty of room to seat the strip. lose a screw? I did, and the least-needed one is the one pulled at #3. NOW who needs to buy a battery door? I have a z3 with a fried power board.

I am a clutz with mechanical things - is it worth getting the battery door repaired? If you've had one fixed, was it susceptible to the same problem later? I understand Sony charges a flat fee of $181 for repairs. I llove this camera, I really do, and I've been a Minolta gal all my life - but I am a bit reluctant to pay $181 to repair something that will go out on me again in a short time.

Is a replacement battery compartment available, if so where from?

If any of the liquid got inside the camera it has probably damaged the circuit board. replacing the battery compartment will not help. if you are very good with electronics you can dismantle the camera and try to clean it and look for damage. but its a very intricate job.

I need a service manual for the Dimage z2 Digital camera

Hi,

Right, this is the info that you need. To remove and replace the battery door you need to follow 15 steps in the correct order, they are:

Remove the two screws (above lens) that hold on the flash cover.
Remove the flash cover
Remove the three screws on the view finder cover
Remove the view finder cover
Remove the two screws on the side of the battery compartment
Remove the two screws in the middle of the base of the camera
Remove the sliding cover on the left hand side of the lens
Remove the single screw on the left hand (curved) part of the camera case
Remove the single screw on the bottom left hand side of the casing
Remove the trim piece on the right of the camera next to the lens, the top has a sticky pad under it so will be difficult to lift up.
Remove the screw behind the trim plate
Remove the back casing

The flap should now be replaceable, if you do not feel comfortable with this then get a professional shop to do it.

Looking for z2 battery door

I ordered a new battery comparment door from Sony online who bought all the Minolta brand parts and technical support services. It was $35.00 plus S/H. I am trying to self-install it but failed after my first attempt. I downloaded some tips from someone else off this websit who did it so I will re-attempt again soon using their steps. Wish me luck. It's a great camera but I heard it would cost $181 to repair it so I'd rather try it myself first.

Konica-Minolta Dimage Z2 can't turn on

Well, I also bought the DiMAGE Z2, and my problem was similar: It worked for some time, but then it started freezing sometimes, not responding to any button I pressed. One time, it froze, shut off, and I wasn't able to power it up again. In short, the camera was still under its warranty, so I gave it to their lab and they fixed the problem.
