Maybe you mean you installed a new window xp operating system. to enable your sound, run your motherboard cd driver. or you can go to the motherboard manufacturer website. enter your motherboard model no. Model no. can be located at your motherboard plate somewhere along the pci expansion slots. Then download audio driver

Windows doesn't recognize my sound card and I can't locate a driver, for it. I don't think the sound card is bad, as it worked before I reformatted my harddrive and added the software.

Install the latest Sound driver from the website.

link: support.dell.com
Click on "Drivers & Downloads",
Enter your "Service Tag",
Locate the right driver, download it.. & Install it.

Hope it works....

You need to click the link on this webpage near bottom to go to download. Let me know if this does the trick. It definitely sounds like an XP issue.
