gustav94I have the same dvd player and had the same problem, I just couldn't read my data cds and it was so frustrating windows kept telling me the cds with data were blank, i searched thoroughly over the net for an answer but most involved registry mods or flashing the firmware which could bog your dvd for life. I was about to give up and get a hammer and whack the computer when i decided to get a dry cotton bud and gently wipe the laser lens of the dvd player, and guess what? my good old data cds were being read!!! kudos to classics.
Thanks for your help re: dvd player recorder.
I have now desided it needs a new read write drive and am searching for local repair shop to do this.
Thanks again

These drives, remarkably, don't need drivers to work, just a good non-microsoft burner, so your burning program may be corrupt. If you don't know what burning program you have,
I recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, a free program which not only tells you everything in your
computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software
(with their unique codes), and will also inform you if you are
missing any needed Windows updates.
Once you know what you have, if it came with the computer, you have
to seek an upload at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may
be a special program not related to the burning software purchased
from the software manufacturer---go to their website for upgrades.
Also, check device manager in control panel under hardware to see if you
have a problem with anything (a big yellow check) to fix.
If there were compatability issues with the disc it would have been unable to burn to the dvd initially, the problems you mention are a sign that the reading in the dvd is failing and there's never a solution for problems as these, as it means that a replacement is needed, as the dvd writer arent worth repairing.
I had the same thing exactly, but after a while it wouldnt even acknowledge that i had a writable dvd in the drive, but was ok with cd's.
I think it is down to poor quality lasers, so as to keep the dvd writer prices down.
