Question about Gateway FPD1960 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor will not turn on- was working fine a week ago!

Thanks for your help guys.

It all started a week ago- I could not get my monitor to turn on when I arrived home. I typically turn off my monitor, go to school / bed, and leave my computer running. I would move my mouse to initiate it out of whatever sleep/screensaver mode it was in (not hibernating), and it would not turn on. It woulf fizzle, I would see gray vertical lines, then it would just go out. The orange 'power connected' light would not even turn on, which is supposed to be on, regardless of computer connection, as long as the monitor is plugged in.

Early on, when I would try and revive and my monitor would go out, I would wait an hour or so, try and turn it back on, and it would again go through the gray / black lines, and MAY (50/50) kick on and work normally.

Now its at the point where I cant get it to turn on at all, no orange standby light, no power whatsoever, nothing. My CPU is fine, the power cord is fine, my monitor just fails.

Gateway is worthless, they dont want to do anything about it. How can I get this fixed?

I have only had my Gateway Monitor a little over a year and now it will not turn on. The orange stand-by light will not come on either. Screen freezes and turns gray. I payed over $300.00 dollars on this monitor. It should work longer than a year before before problems start to happen. If I send it to a Gateway Tech. will they fix it?

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went gray or stopped working, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

My HP W1907 monitor works fine until I try to play The Sims 3 game. I play for several minutes or hours and the monitor shows the message that it is going to sleep and the light on the monitor goes...

Hi there. I had the same problem months ago when I try to play high end games like Sims 3 my monitor goes into power saving mode. I tried to check every possible causes of the problem. It could be that your computer is overheating try to clean your computer and check if your fans still works. Second it could me your power supply malfunctioning, maybe it does not meet the required power to make your game work. Last cause is your video card malfunctioning, what I did is to just buy a new video card and it works.
If you do not have spare power supply or video card you can go to a computer repair shop for them to check the possible problem that causes it to go into power saving mode. It can also save you money before you can buy a new one.
Hope this helps, Have a good day!

The monitor turns on and off every 1-3 sec, how do I fix it?

Hi dcalderon128;

I'd cover your basics first. Try checking the monitor cables at both ends, make sure they are tightly connected. Next, if the monitor is plugged in to a power strip or surge protector disconnect it and plug it in to the wall directly.

Lastly, if you have more then one computer(including laptops) try plugging your monitor in to another computer.

If any of this solves your problem great!

Screen flashes "on" and then goes black on start up...

This is usually a bad capacitor problem. They would need to be replaced, or get a new monitor. Some shops will work on them, but you have to weigh the cost vs buying a new monitor for almost the same price.

There are some websites on repairing your own, but you need to know a bit about soldering and such.

Monitor is slow to come out of sleep mode

Hi.
Sounds like the power-inverter board is due for an overhaul.
Eventually it won't turn on at all.
I do redo many of these.

Monitor black screen

Your first step in troubleshooting this problem is to plug in another monitor to your computer. If you are having the same problem it is related to your computer. If the second monitor works fine then your original monitor is shot.

My monitor turns itself off

If it's only a few months old then send it back under warranty.
The fault you have is the inverter circuit.

Hope that helps. =)

Strange delay.

I'm having the exact same strange delay problem as you.
I fixed my delay when I too took my machine to your girlfriends. LOL!

No seriously.... you solved your delay problem yourself when you UNPLUGGED the power cord from the back of the monitor.

My guess is that when you unplug the power cord, the monitor resets itself. It's only a temporary fix, but, IT WORKS.

1. Turn the monitor OFF
2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor
3. Wait 10-15 seconds or so
4. Plug the power cord back in
5. Turn your monitor ON........DELAY ELIMINATED.

The delay returns eventually, but, I just unplug-n-replug and I'm good to go again.

Monitor does not work

sounds like a slightly damaged power supply. try powering up with an equivalent supply. if only an ac wall cord is plugged in for power, then internal supply is at fault
