Mine had the same problem. On mine the spindle wasn't turning the game. It kept trying to then quit and said "Open Tray". The warranty was out so I took it apart opened the dvd drive and took apart the spindle. The grease in the spindle was black, I guess from all the heat. Cleaned it out and put some high temperature grease on spindle shaft and in the hole. It now spins with ease. There are videos on youtube on how to take apart the xbox and to take apart the dvd drive and spindle. Just pay close attention at how tight the screws the hold the spindle down are.I hope this helps.
unfortunately it's a sure sign your drive is faulty, the noises are the laser trying to read the tracks, cd's can be easier read than dvd's because the tracks are wider apart, whereas dvd's data is packed tighter together and the reading is more difficult for a faulty laser, you will need to replace it or buy an external usb writer.
Usually when the drive door won't open in either a DVD player or a CD
player, it's because someone has put a CD or DVD that was not
seated correctly in the tray, and once the tray closed the disc caused
it to jam.
The only other causes are the mechanism. If it uses a belt to open the
drive tray it may be slipping. There could be a broken or misaligned
gear, or the tray may have come off of the track or rail it slides on.
In these cases the unit would have to be taken apart and repaired.
If it contains a misaligned disc, you will have to take it apart, and
remove the top from the drive. Then remove the disc and reassemble the
If you're really lucky, the manufacturer may have put a small hole at
the front of the drive. It almost looks like a pinhole, but slightly
bigger. If you push a piece of wire (like a paperclip) into the hole,
it may force the tray open for you. However, if there is no hole, the
drive will have to be disassembled.
Hi I guess ya mean that the CD tray will NOT open?
If this is the case... then ya can "Open" it by way of a paper clip straightened... and then insert one end into the hole provided, on the front of the CD... There is a small hole usually just above the LED, inset & push it in until the mechanisim releases.. the tray should pop open and ya will B able to recover ya DVD...
