Question about Apex Digital GB5108 51" Rear Projection EDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Controls We one of these televisions and originaaly the control panel on the front of the tv came loose from the inside of the television, so we had to rely on the remote for power, volume and all of that stuff. Now the remote will not work and you cannot turn the tv off because if you do you can't get it turned back on. You can turn it on if you can get to the control panel buttons inside the tv, which is very hard, but it is not working properly either because you cannot get power without having to repeatedly turning the tv on and off using these buttons and you also can't get the volume or channels to change. What needs to be done?

My Remote is in working condition but TV is not working by remote. What is the problem ?

Check the remote for its infrared emission first. Light up the LED at the top of the remote control, is not and indication that it works properly. The infrared LED is at its front end. Check it for emission. If you wish to get more details about how to check and repair a remote control, check the link sited bellow. If the remote control is OK, then the infrared sensor inside the TV is faulty.
The infrared sensor will look somewhat like this, and can be located just behind the infrared reception window at the front panel of the TV. You have to open the TV to access it.

T.v. is off but screen flashes (like a gray flash, maybe every minute or less)?

Some conductive/semi-conductive loose particles might be lying inside the TV, which can short circuit the main power supply. Also look for any jammed buttons on the control panel, and/or remote control.

Remote control

If you are sure that there is infrared emission from the remote control, replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. It can be located just behind the infrared window at its front panel. You have to open the TV to access it. There are many types of it. Some among them are illustrated here.

Have a proscan ps50700 that wont show the picture, will turn on but turns itself right back off. what could it be

TV Doesn't Turn On
  • Your RCA rear projection TV may not turn on from time to time for several reasons. First, check that the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. Check that the outlet is receiving electricity by plugging a different device into the outlet. If the other device doesn't work, you may need to replace a fuse or reset a circuit breaker in your home.

If you tried using the remote control to turn on the TV, press the "Power" button on the front of the TV. You may have a problem with the remote control if the TV turns on.

If you tried using the front control panels and haven't tried the remote, press the "Power" button on the remote control. The television controls are blocked if the TV turns on with the remote. To unlock the controls, open the "Parental Control" menu and remove the check mark next to "Front Panel Block."

Finally, your TV may be performing a diagnostic check. These checks are used to find any errors in your TV. Wait a few minutes before trying to turn on the TV again.

TV Turns Off By Itself
  • You may find that your RCA TV turns off by itself on occasion. This is often because the "Sleep Timer" feature was enabled. This feature allows you to place a timer on the television that will turn it off after a specific amount of time has passed. The feature allows you to save on your energy bill and extend the life of your television.

If the "Sleep Timer" wasn't set, the television may have detected a power surge in your home and shut off automatically to protect the components of the television. Wait at least 30 seconds before turning the TV on again.

Finally, if you suspect the television is turning off for a reason other than a power surge, unplug the television and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. This will clear any errors in the television. After 10 minutes, plug the television back into the outlet and resume normal use.

  • Blank Screen
  • A blank screen on an RCA rear projection television is usually caused by a loose connection or an incorrect setting. Check that the coaxial connection on the back of the television is secure or, if you're using an external device such as a DVD player, the video cables are secure. Press the "Ant/Cable" button to switch between tuners if you are watching television, or the "Input" button to switch between input channels if you're watching something from an external device.

Over sound when switched on tv

If the sound cannot be controled through TVs front panel controls or through remote control, your Tvs electronic volume control section is in trouble. It may be an Ic probelm or some loose contact in the printed circuit board itsef. Check it by somebody who knew through about it. Contact an experienced servic technician.

Light touch control panel always lit. "not available" keeps flashing on screen.

This is a common problem--the touch-sensitive buttons on the front panel are malfunctioning. Easiest solution is to unplug that control board from the main board inside the TV. See here:

No control from the remote control

On these models we have found that a switch is sticking on the control panel not allowing the set to turn on. Disconnect the control panel. You will be able to use the remote on it. To find the plugs for the control panel: Remove the speaker grill and front panel, then follow the wire to the connection. Remember to unplug the set before putting your hands inside of it.
