How To Tip #1: Disabling your Startup Items
Is your computer reacting slowly when it starts up and shuts down? The cause of this is likely due to the fact that many people have an enormous amount of programs that launch when Windows starts up. Hence when you boot into the Operating System, Windows wants to load each program while you just want to do something else.
The same goes when trying to shut down your computer. Windows needs to close all open programs and services in order to shut down. The less you have running, the quicker it is to start up and shut down. Additionally, you may also notice a sharp increase in your computer's performance since it won't be using as much of the computer's resources with all those background processes running.
If you have a ton of programs that are loading during startup, it's very easy to disable these. This won't uninstall that program, it just won't start at the same time as Windows. It will still be on your hard drive and ready to work when you want to open it.
To stop these programs from starting up with Windows, simply click on Start, type in MSCONFIG, then hit Enter. Remove the check mark next to Load Startup Items and then reboot. That's all there is to it.
