HP TOWER Hello, I have an hp pavilion tower and everytime I turn it on, it turns on and then says windows/system32/config/windows it says to insert the original cd to repair and press r at the first screen to start repairing. I tried doing that and I used some other websites that explained other tips, but nothing works. Please write back when you can. Thanks

Solution 1
Requires some tech skills:

To complete part one, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.
Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted to do so.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
  3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
  4. When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
  5. At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp
    copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
    copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
    copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
    copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
    copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
    delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
    delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
    delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

    copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
    copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
    copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
    copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
    copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default
  6. Type exit to quit Recovery Console. Your computer will restart.

Why is my hp pavilion a1220n product number ED904AA-ABA?

Try removing the 512 MB memory to see if it does work with the 1GB stick only.

It's not the power supply that does have a problem. It has something with your memory stick.

Either your monitor died or your video card/chip died. Test your tower with a different monitor or test your monitor with a different tower.

Hp pavilion f1340.uk will not turn on at all, just the green light flickers at the rear of the tower?

Could be a number of things wrong with this tower.

-If the computer stays at a black screen with a white cursor, it means it's missing system files and the operating system cannot start up. A reinstall is needed.

-If your computer won't power on, it could be either the power supply or motherboard, or sometimes, both.

-Also, check to see if the RAM is properly inserted into the proper slots.

Hope this was helpful.

I recently bought a used TEAC CDWE552-GB CD Burner for my old computer. I received the power cord and cable to power it up but not the cables to attach it to my computer ( HP Pavilion 4550Z ). The ports on...

Unfortunately, I don't think you can use this CD writer on the HP Pavilion 4550Z directly. The CDWE552-G is an external USB device. The HP Pavilion 4550Z doesn't have any USB ports.

There are two options that I think you could consider. 1) Get a USB card to insert into the micro-tower. It's currently easier to find PCI USB 2.0 cards, see https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100168119%20600022008 for some examples. Before purchasing, check to make sure the card is compatible with the OS on the HP Pavilion 4550Z. It started with Windows 98. You will have to remove the Fax/modem to use that slot. (An ISA card might work but I haven't seen an ISA bus USB card in years.)

2) Take the CD writer out of the external case. The CDWE552 should use an IDE cable; just swap this CD writer for the one in the micro-tower. The HP Pavilion 4550Z should have the appropriate cables inside the tower. The original CD reader specifications indicate it was an IDE device.

I hope this helps.

Windows XP Missing configuration?

Sounds like you may have bad RAM. Try removing all of the RAM modules on your motherboard and put only one in the first slot. Start the computer and see if it works.
