Yes,

Run windows updates, Start>programs>windows update
It will ask you if want to da an express or custom update, select custom.
On the left you will see optional hardware updates, select all and install.

Or you can go to start>settings>control panel>system>device manager> select your sound card and update driver via internet.

Hope this helps

I don't have any sounds in my computer anymore

Reload your sound card driver if you have one. XP has resident support for most sound cards, but not for all. . Short of that, you need to go to device manager and see if your sound card is showing up as "working correctly". If not, microsoft has articles that address sound problems. You should be able to get an answer there.

After some time my sound card stop working but as i reinstall he driver the sounds come back is there any problem with my sound card or with the driver

I just posted this same problem myself last night. I found another tip and tried it and it solve my problem.
1. Go to MY Computer properties by rt clicking on the icon
2. Go to Hardware tab and look for your Sound(click the + sign)
3. Right click only the sound device that is a problem and click "remove or unistall". Leave all the codecs or other things you see in there.
4. Close everything and Reboot
5. Windows XP will recognize "found new hardware" and installs the drivers automatically if it is still in the system, if not you have to reinstall from your recovery disks.
6. Reboot again (that's how I got my sound back)

I have a compaq Presario that came with windows 98SE.Recently I Upgraded it to Windows XP Pro SP2.Since then My ESS Integrated Audio Card can't load.I keep getting the message ESS PCI audio controller...

hi your computer is not seing the driver of your sound card, you may need to download updated driver for it, you can search for the drivers of your sound card online, you can also find that on the computer manufacturers website.

to see the status of your devices go to device manager for more info.

right click on my computer icon>properties>hardware tab>device manager.

you can also uninstall, reinstall, and update device drivers here.

hope this helps.
