Hi, The black screen problem means the lens sensor is spoiled due to over exposure to heat. Its better to give it to cannon service centre. If your camera is under warranty period its well and good they will replcae the lense sensor for free of cost.

If every part is working properly why do we have no picture? Flash would have no bearing unless you're are testing in a darkened room. What makes you think it's not the shutter? If your car suddenly stopped running and the mechanic told you the big end was gone would you say "it can't be, the radio is working"

If the shutter was at fault it would certainly result in a black screen. It could well be the CCD or even the LCD. Unfortunately these are items beyond most people's ability to test so a qualified tech with the associated test equipment would be needed. The best bet being the authorised agent. Do I detect a possibility that perhaps you've had the back off the camera for a look? If you have you could have caused any amount of damage simply by doing so.

I remember about 25 years ago a lady came into my repair shop and told me her TV wanted a new on/off switch. I asked what made her think it was faulty, she replied "because it won't switch on you silly man" True story.

Why does the screen stay black when camera is turned on?

Did you try to press the display button several times? Most of the time you can cycle through different views on the display, with different information during record mode. One is display off.

My Canon PowerShot SD880 IS has a black display screen. I cannot take pics now with the black screen, but the display DOES work for pics taken before the screen went black. Please help!

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I found one posting elsewhere that said that this was a "common" problem. That person's camera was under warranty. Mine isn't, but it's less than 2 years old.

The part of my camera that display image is broken

if its the screen (LCD) and if its cracked (may show black spots and colorful lines) then you can do 2 things, 1. get a new camera 2. get a new screen for it and install it (you probaly can get a screen on ebay, but it requires opening up the camera and working on the components on the inside, its not that hard to do, but if you dont have experince with working on electronics, i would have someone replace the screen or simply buy a new camera from the store or even ebay

Camera's screen is black, but still takes pictures.

Think that you might have accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, try pressing the DISP button once with the camera turned on.

Pictures are black

My 4300 works fine until this week. No picture display on the LCD screen. Settings like date, exposure, etc.. are fine on the LCD screen. Able to get into setup mode and the colour menu selection box is fine. This shows that the LCD screen is working fine. Prior to this happening, I notice that when I took pictures in zoom mode, the picture turn out to be orange. I suspect this is caused by electronic failure. Light entering the lens cannot be transmitted to the LCD screen. Some photoelectronic stuff had reached its MTBF (mean time between failure)? Is there a way to save this camera?
