I have a Epson Stylus Photo R220 printer.

After I had cleaned the heads a couple of times because 1 cleaning never works (I have done this many times before when the printer isn't used for a couple of days). I have had this printer for about 2 years.

I went print something and the printer started to flash the RED INK LIGHT and the PAPER RED LIGHT ALTERNATLY. I noticed that the green power light wasn't on either.

I called Epson and they said it was the printer and it had something to do with the CD/DVD printer hardware. I told them that I have never used the printer for printing on CD's or DVD's.So how can that be damaged. They sent me an email with 3 companies to send my printer out to be fixed. I use this printer for my business and print inserts for the DVD's that my customers get for their special occasions. I'm a videographer.

What if anything can I do? I also have an auto ink feeder hooked up to it and this will only work (as far as I know) with the R220.

Also, do you know if Epson or other brands have the same kind of INK setup as the R220 that use the same inl car's (6). That way I might be able to hookup the ink feeder to a different printer.

Waiting for the GOOD answer.

Thanks,
Mike

SOURCE: not recognizing new ink cartridge

I had the same problem during setup. I tried the sharp rapping and four-letter words solution, but that didn't work for me. I called customer service and after a looooooong hold (apparently everyone in the universe is having problems), I talked to someone who transferred me to the "print head" part of tech support. During the conversation I had so much trouble understanding the guy that I said I wanted to take him off speaker phone so I could hear him better, and I accidentally cut off the call. Wouldn't it be nice if call center people were actually understandable in English.

Nevertheless, he did give me a couple of instructions before I lost the call, and after I did them things worked right. Here is what he said to do:

1. Remove the black and color cartridges.

2. Place finger in upper left hand corner of print head case and gently slide it down. That is when I lost the call, but as I did that the print head case easily slipped out.

I reinstalled it, put the cartridges back in, closed the printer and, voila, the calibration sequence started.

The tech guy took my number "in case we got disconnected," so he could call me back, but so far he didn't call back. Nevertheless, my printer's working. Next step is to hook it up to my computer.

Hope this helps someone.

SOURCE: flashing red/green lights

The Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the red lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. If you want to have a go at this yourself, the service manual can be downloaded from

Red and green lights are flashing alternatively and colour ink cartridge has run out. How do i change the cartridge?

Flashing alternately mean waste pad full. Reset using SSC utility or Adjusment program/resetter. But, you must replace cartridge before. Turn off printer, unlock carriage lock (left side of carriage at parking position). Move carriage by hand to replacement position. Replace ink tank. Reset using the resetter.

Ink red light on . which colour is out?

When red ink light flashes - one or more ink cartridges is low. When you print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

When red ink light remains on - one or more ink cartridges is empty. When you try to print, a message on your screen will tell you which one(s).

Furthermore: When following the procedure for installing a new cartridge, if the red ink light was on or flashing, pressing the ink button will cause the carriage to stop with the cartridge that needs replacing under the "ink out mark" (ink droplet with a slash through it).

My red lights are both flashing and printer will not responed

Both red lights flashing? One should be for paper jam and the other for low/insufficient ink. I presume this is a deskjet/injet printer. The combination of these two lights flashing usually indicates a more serious issue rather than just low ink or paper jam. It is indicative of incompatibility of ink cartridge. After a while some cartridges just could become incompatible with the machine. All things being equal (i.e. no paper jam issue) a replacement of your ink cartridge will resolve this issue. Just get brand new ink cartridge/cartridges. It is usually ok to replace only the one that has become incompatible. But the issue is you need to troubleshoot to determine. You may not have the resources to do this, so better to replace both or replace one-by-one.
