The number lock is engaged on your laptop keyboard. usually that is FN+F11 keys or number lock is on by default in the BIOS setup.
Check and see which F1-F12 key looks like a number pad

Some of the keys are not working including enter key

Please try to specify what alphabet keys that are not working. If it extends up to the number keys, then your keyboard is broken and no alternative repair can be done. You need to replace it.

Alphabet keys displaying numeric

This happens when you have the Num Lk (Number Lock) key on and you have Pressed the FN Function key at the lower left hand portion of the keyboard. When this happens if you press the keys such as UIOJKLM you will key the numbers 4561230.

Turn your Num Lk off by pressing that key at the top of the keyboard.

The keys that are alpha - numberic are typeing numbers instead of alphabet.

There should be a key marked [FN] check that key for something stuck under it. If nothing is there press the [FN] key and make sure the number lock is off and see if that corrects the problem. If it doesn't the next step would be double checking the keyboard selection inside windows and reloading the keyboard drivers finally if nothing from above corrects the problem you will need to replace the keyboard. If you have ever had that area open for maintenance or cleaning open it up again and make sure the connector hasn't come loose.

Numbers coming up instead of letters

There's a key on the keyboard that turns a "grid" of the alphabetic characters into a "grid' of numbers, like you would find on an adding-machine.

Press that key, to disable the "numeric pad" functionality.

Fn key wont turn off

OK, I've found a soliution! :) I've been diging the internet and many people are having the same problem, so it is a common problem however the soliution is very simple (in my case). The thing is that laptops does not has a saparated Num Pad, and numbers can be found on keys under F1-F12 row or/and (active with Fn key) on alphabetic keys uiopjkl;m/ and so on. But if there is a NumLk key on your keyboard, you can lock the Num Pad on alphabetic keys. Then you have to hold Fn key pressed to write letters.  Find the NumLk key and try to turn off the Num Pad :)
On my laptop (Acer extensa 5120) NumLk key is on F11 and active when Fn is depressed.
Hope this wil help :)
