I was cleaning my room this morning &I accidentally dropped my HD while it was still running. : It was still working fine about three hours ago, but when I tried playing a song I stored in the external earlier just now using my laptop, it all of a sudden froze my iTunes, so I turned it off. After that, the drive stopped showing up on My Computer. D: The USB port still shows up/the ''Safely Remove Hardware'' icon still displays on my toolbar, but the drive doesn't show up in my My Computer folder anymore. :[ I tried it on a different computer, but the same thing happens.
Is there anything I can do to make it work again? I checked out a few sites earlier &they all say that I have to format my HD(?) I have a lot of really important stuff stored in there (i pretty much use it as a back-up storage), so I really don't wish to lose any files/data I stored. What can I do? :,[
Btw, I looked through my ''Disk Management'', and it says the external is not initialized. I can't assign a letter to the drive either. (Heres a screencap: http://i40.tinypic.com/15wi9ag.jpg)
Hi, thank you for your response! I tried using both Stellar Phoenix Window Data Recovery &Recover my Files, but my external drive doesnt show up on the list of drives to recover on either software. Only my internal HDs are showing up (screencap here:http://i43.tinypic.com/2q1dl5c.jpg). :( Do you have any other suggestions/ideas? Thank you!Hi, thank you for your response! You may have damaged the external HD. You may have a warranty problem. My experience has been, even with a warranty, I would lose all information since they would just replace with a new External HD. I voided the warranty, took the External HD apart. The actual 2.5 hd inside their "cheep" houseing was still ok. I installed it in a replacement External housing after I had determined the Data was still there.
right click on my computer and click manage
inside computer management there is disk management. find the drive and then you can right click it to repartition and format the drive. It willnot be listed with a letter under the lettered drives there is a list of partions etc find the one related to your drive.
hi there could be a couple of things you can try, you could, ( if you have xp ) have the drive in, then go to my computer, then tools, then folder options, click, view, then look down the list for show hidden files and folders, that's one, the other is to take the drive caddy apart, remove the hard drive ( as they are just normal hdd's in external boxes ) connect it up to a spare port on your desktop computer and see if you can transfer files that way, ( note! this will void the warranty on the drive case if you do this if it is still under warranty ) the other way would be to get a data recovery program, like winundelete, which you should be able to find on either your computer or the net for free, hope this will help
have the files been deleted from the laptop? if not i would simply do a fresh format on the external and re migrate data. if they are then you can get software such as undelete or recover my files to restore your deleted data off of your laptop drive.
Attach your external HD with some other computer, that will definitely appear normal, the problem is due to a virus in ur HD. Your computer's antivirus software stops it to appear. Back up your data on the other computer, format ur external HD, remove un-necessary files and run a virus scan to the files u copied from HD, Hope this will solve the problem, if not, let me know and tell me what would be the response on the other compuer
This is the problem of worm, virus. Now-a-days virus is disturbing entire system. U must update your anti-virus, Purchase a full version including total internet protection, update the OS(operating System), Full Scan the system. it must be cleared
If the spinning sound is not clean anymore there is damage to the hard drive and I doubt it will be easy to get the data out. If the drive still shows up in the disk management you can try to access it with a tool like ddrescue and then run photorec on the created image. If you want somebody else to do it for
you there is Data Recovery NYC. Also there is good informaation on hard drive repairs on hddguru.com.
