Same thing happened to my "new" Sharp lcd, I loosened the back screws just a tad and it stopped. I believe it is caused by heat from the back light and expands the LCD fluid causing it to leak down the front between the cover mask and the glass. Not an easy fix and if you have any warranty check into it....

Looks like a water stain on the sceen

Liquid and/or water stains in LCD screens can be removed by opening the panel and cleaning with a delicate non-abrasive cloth {If needed use a diluted alcohol water mix.} The water will be trapped between the plastic sheeting that is within the panel assembly. This procedure is very easy on a laptop though since you have a 42" screen... The LCD panel is composed of: the display itself and several layers of translucent plastic sheets which focus and enhance the image produced by the display. The display is usually very thin so perhaps on such a large screen it is best that you have a professional perform the repair.

If you decide to undertake this task on your own, I recommend a flat level surface and latex gloves to prevent further smudging {also, most if not all LCD's contain mercury.}

47 inch Toshiba LCD REGZA TV - screen has what looks like water stain or "woodgrain-like" shadows/artifacts. They go sort of vertical but are not straight, (look like wood grain shadows). Not real obvious...

The only way might solved this problem,to replaced the Tuner Signal board.If the board is replaced have same problem,then ur tv have some kind of dead pixels burns in.Tries Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com for the board part.

I have what can only be described as a stain on the screen of my 32 inch lcd phillips. its only on part of it from the top mid half way down ,looks like a water mark.

I assume this stain is internal? From your description it sounds like a flaw or fault within the screen. The only solution would be to replace the screen

WESTINGHOUSE FLAT SCREEN TV

Water damage/stains possible on backlight panel behind LCD panel. I've seen this more on laptops. Does it look like brighter white spots? You might have to take it in to have it professionally cleaned.

26" Philips HD ready tv (LCD)

Nothing much you can do. The soft plastic will get worse if you try anything.

The screen could be replaced, but would cost more than the TV.

MOTH

I'm guessing you have a matt finish to your screen in which case it is semi flexible plastic. It's important not to use anything abrasive or acidic as it could leave an etched mark. The best think is to soak a tissue in a solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water (about 1 teaspoon to 1/4 pint water), then with your TV switched off, tape the tissue over the stain and leave overnight. Gently rub the tissue over the area the next morning and the mark should have gone or at least be less noticeable. Hope that helps :o)

Looks like a water stain on screen

IT SHOULD NOT NEED A "REPAIR" PER SAY. HOWEVER, I OWN AN LCD TV, BUT NOT A PROTRON. YOU'RE GONNA FIND THIS PROBLEM WITH ALL LCD TV'S. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS SIMPLY DIRTY. THIS IS THE WAY YOU CLEAN YOUR SCREEN. IT IS VERY EASY AND FAST, AND YOU SHOULD HAVE THE SOLUTION IN YOUR KITCHEN AND BATHROOM. TAKE THE CLEANEST, MOST SOFT CLOTH YOU HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE. DAMPEN,NOT SOAK IT, WITH WATER, AND LIGHTLY RUB A SMALL SECTION OF THIS STAIN, AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. IF THIS DOES NOT WORK, ADD A SMALL AMOUNT OF SIMPLE RUBBING ALCOHOL, AND TRY ANOTHER SMALL SPOT OF THE STAIN. IT SHOULD COME OFF. SOME OF MY "HI-TECH" FRIENDS USE STRAIGHT RUBBING ALCOHOL, AS IT HAS A TENDENCY TO EVAPORATE A LOT FASTER THAN WATER AND LESS LIKELY TO LEAVE ANY "WATER STAINS". HOWEVER, IF YOU CANNOT SEE THROUGH THIS STAIN, THEN YOU'RE BETTER OFF BUYING A NEW TV. SOUNDS LIKE SOME KIND OF LEAK OR MAYBE THE TV IS JUST NEVER SHUT OFF, THEREFORE BURNING IMAGES INTO THE SCREEN. FORTUNATELY, IF IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, YOU MAY GET HELP THERE. MY FIANCE TOUCHED THE LCD SCREEN WITH HIS FINGERS, AND IF YOUR FINGERS ARE DIRTY, THEY WILL LEAVE OIL STAINS. PEOPLE DO SOMETHING TO A PRIZE POSSESSION IN YOUR HOUSE, DONT TELL YOU THEN ACT LIKE THEY DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. ITS HILARIOUS. HOPEFULLY THE ISSUE YOU HAVE CAN BE FIXED BY YOU!
