I have the 4GB Sandisk Cruzer micro SDCZ6-4096RB with U3 Smart Drive. I used it on windows Vista just once and it has been Unusable since. I tried to find a fix on the Sandisk web site but my search was unsuccessful. My error reads as follows: "An error has occurred while initializing U3 Launchpad: Drive G is unavailable or un-formatted. Please format the drive, remove and re-insert the U3 smart drive and try again". This stick is less than a week old. I've already loaded it up with back-up files from a computer I am rebuilding for a customer and now I have to find a way to access it in-order to retrieve the data. This is not good. Please help us find a solution. It seems to me that Sandisk should be working on this.

Download Gparted disk partion tool, use the bootable ISO burn disk. Now boot PC with gparted and on the desktop is a icon for mounting usb drives, use this to mount the usb stick.Follow the instructions, when asked to install gparted on disk exit window by using "q+enter" key.
Now start the partion tool and mount usb drive and partion and format.
An alternative method is to use the partion tool found in most linux distributions such as in puppy or mepis.

My SanDisk 1gb flash drive says i only have 1 try left at trying to unlock it. I didn't even know i had locked it. Can you please Help?

This will get the drive back, but you WILL lose the data. If you need the data. I do not know the answer. Repost your question to go to Sandisk site below

'.............U3 smart drives come preinstalled with the U3 Launchpad which emulates the Windows OS start menu, and controls program installation and hence facilitate the portability of software. However, if you would like to use the USB flash drive or memory key as a pure normal USB mass storage device, or you don't use operating system that U3 supports (i.e Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems), or you simply feel that U3 Launchpad and applications have bugs such as unable to eject due to locked files in use, consent on privacy and automatic installation of U3 software and pop-up etc, you can uninstall and remove the U3 Launchpad from the USB storage device.

To remove and delete the U3 Launchpad, you need to download U3 Launchpad uninstallers or U3 Launchpad Removal Tool that remove the U3 Launchpad and re-configure the USB drive to be a single mass storage USB drive. Currently, U3 Launchpad uninstallers are only available for and must be run on Windows XP or Windows 2000 machine. When uninstalling, the U3 smart drives USB device has to be plugged in with U3 Launchpad running.

U3 Launchpad Removal Tool for SanDisk USB U3 devices can be downloaded here, http://u3.sandisk.com/

WARNING: U3 Launchpad removal is irreversible. You won't be able to install U3 again. Beside, backup your data before begin uninstallation process as ALL data will be erased.

UPDATE: It's impossible to reinstall U3 LaunchPad........."

Launchpad installer

If you are using Windows and have not formatted the drive or otherwise tampered with it.

Open the Windows explorer.
Plug the device in a USB port and wait for the computer to recognize it. After it is recognized the Windows Explorer will show two additional icons, one of them a CD-ROM.

Click the icon with the CD-ROM, and it will execute the U3 operating system. A small yellow icon with a U3 label will appear on the task bar. Right-click the icon on task bar and select the "Open U3 Launchpad". Point to the Settings button on the right side.
Right click that button and select the U3 LaunchPad settings

In the window that pop up point to "Autorun" button and click it.

Click the button that will say Enable.

U3 smart drive is a USB flash drive that allows you to install and run U3 smart applications from the U3 smart drive itself. When you use a drive in this manner, you can take your applications with you and run them on any Windows 2000 or XP computer.

Not only can you use the U3 smart drive for carrying your files but you can also carry your applications with your personalized settings with you as well. There is an application that is included on every U3 smart drive called the U3 Launchpad and it is your console for managing the applications that are installed on your U3 smart drive. The U3 Launchpad also provides utilities that let you customize your U3 smart drive your way.

More on U3:
Under the hood, a U3 smart drive is an advanced USB flash drive with special features that allow the U3 smart drive to take on multiple personalities depending on how it has been configured. The default configuration is composed of two drive letters or domains. One of the drive letters is a removable mass storage domain just like any other USB flash drive. The other drive letter or domain emulates a closed CD-R CD disc in a CD drive and contains the U3 system files that makeup the U3 Launchpad. When you connect the U3 smart drive to your PC, you will see two new drive letters after the Windows OS has fully set up the drive.

You will see the emulated CD-R drive which usually is indicated in file explorer by a U3 logo and another drive letter that is the mass storage domain. The mass storage drive letter will have a label with a name like "My U3 Drive" or some other manufacturer specific label. Newer versions of the U3 Launchpad lets you rename the drive letter label using the Status and Settings dialog. Older U3 Launchpads can be renamed by right clicking on its drive letter label in file explorer and selecting rename.

The drive letters assigned to the two drive domains by the Windows operating system can be any available letter but typically are between F: and Z:. The two letters may or may not be sequential and the mass storage drive letter may be before the CD-R drive letter. You do need to see both drive letters appear in order for the U3 Launchpad to run.
