NIKON L15 LENS ERROR

THE COVER IS NOT OPENING
SCREEN IS SHOWING LENS ERROR

I had my Nikon Coolpics S51C for 3 months and I also received the Lens Cover Error. I sent the camera back to Nikon and they said it must have ben dropped because that is what causes the lense cover error. They wanted to charge me $100 for repair. The lens does open; but will not take a picture. Does anyone know how to fix or repair this problem? They wouldn't speak with me on the phone; they just kept sending me emails. I was very disappointed. The camera is in great shape with no aparent damage. My other daughter has a panasonic camera that is almost a year old and they have repaired it 2 times so far and never charge me a dime. This camera aparently has been dropped; and they still repair free of charge.

Note this happened to my sons camera within 6 weeks of the warranty expiring. I was with him when it happened - he just zoomed in to an object, and the lens became stuck. We were not on the beach, and he did not drop or hit the camera. Nothing works to solve it. The Nikon tech support page says it will normally be fixed if you turn it off and then on; otherwise take the batteries out, recharge or replace them; then take the batteries out and leave them out overnight, trying again the next day. After that, it can only be serviced. This will cost more than it is worth. My solution? Never buy Nikon again, which actually has an effect, because I was just about to replace my camera when this happened, and upgrade to an SLR.

A friend brought me his NIkon coolpix camera s550 with a lens error. He had set it down at night (after drinking) and the next morn it was giving the lens error. His camera was jammed with the lens in the out position. I looked at the lens from the side and you could see the bezel of the lens was not square with the camera body ....the lens had been bumped off the track....with the camera on...I gently persuaded the lens back to square....it clicked then the camera sucked the lens back in...now it works....do at your own discretion...ie warranty etc....and all it cost my buddy was a beer.

Lens errors, must be fixed by a camera repair shop. They are usually caused by impact of the lens with an object or sand from a beach. Repair estimates range from $50 to $100. Get a new camera if it is closer to $100. Suggest a internal zoom lens like the Fuji Z10fd.

Solution for nikon "lens Cover Error"

Nikon Coolpix S5/S6 “LENS COVER ERROR”

In this document I have given a solution to fix the problem most of the Nikon coolpix S5/S6 cameras face. At power –on it give an error “Lens Cover Error”

Before opening the camera I would suggest you to take a snap of each and every step. Because it will helpful while you are fixing the screws back. There are many screws which has to be opened. So better take a photo of each and every step.

IMP NOTE: Remove the battery before opening the camera. Use some antistatic strip to prevent the components from getting damaged Or Keep your feet touched to the floor such that your body remains grounded.

Follow the below steps in the given order:

Step 1> Remove the screws at the bottom of camera

Step 2>Remove the side screws

Step 3> Remove the side screws as given below .

Step 4>Lift the cover and remove the cables which connects the switches to the camera. These cables are fitted in a small connector. There is a tiny lock (present for few connectors)  on the connector, which on pulling it across its hinges, will open and the cable comes out easily. You need not pull it forcefully.

Step 5> Remove the screw as shown below

Step 6> Lift the screen as shown below.

Step 14>

Step 15> Removing at this stage is a bit difficult. You will have to open it cleverly. Lift it from the side as shown below.

Step 16>

Step 17>Below figure shows the lens cover and the stepper motor which controls the lens civer.
b1dbf70.jpg

Step 18> To remove the stepper motor remove the screws as given below.
8809d48.jpg

Step 19> Below figure shows the stepper motor used for lens cover
91b5685.jpg

Step 20> Below figure shows the stepper motor which is used to control the lens cover. There is a small white switch on this motor. This Switch is used by the camera to detect whether the camera lens cover has is open or closed. When we switch on the camera the lens cover (which is shown in step 17) opens and in turn it presses the white switch show below. If the lens cover is unable to press this switch, then the error “Lens cover Error” flashes on the camera.
I would suggest 3 different ways to solve this problem.
1>     Fix some glue on the white switch shown in the below figure, such that it remains pressed forever. Because of this, camera will never give the error message. Remove the lens cover (which is shown in step 17) forever. You don’t  need it anymore. Now fix the below stepper motor back in the camera and follow the steps in the reverse order to fix the camera components.
2>     Buy a new stepper motor from the market. Its quite cheap. Fix it back in the camera. Here you need not remove the lens cover. Follow the steps in the reverse order to fix the camera.
3>     In this method you can open the stepper motor to fix the problem. Now follow the steps given below.
99cd6b4.jpg

Step 21>
Remove the screws as shown below.
71066aa.jpg

Step 22> Remove the gears one-by-one. See the placements because you have place them again in the right order.
1bea487.jpg

Step 23>
ef8bb9c.jpg

Step 24> The gear shown below is the culprit. Remove it. There is a tension spring present inside this gear. Do remember the position of this gear before removing this gear. Its placement is very important.
921f969.jpg

Step 25> The spring is shown below.
c6e7841.jpg

Step 26> Now the switch shown in step 20 does not get pressed because of reduced tension of the spring. Increase the tension of this spring by pulling it in opposite direction. Place the spring back in the gear and follow the steps in the reverse order to solve the problem. Now because of increased tension of the spring, the lens cover will be able to Press the switch shown in fig 20.

Lens won't close

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

Lens error

This may be related/helpful: My S3 in normal home use (no sand, wet or shock) just now displayed the ?Lens cover error? message, with cover only half open. Using a tooth pick I ?eased? it gently and it popped open, took a few trial pictures- fine, but would not fully close unless eased. Now will open and close slowly on own but error message blocks camera use. Then spotted cause - a loose thin sliver of silver trim from below flash around (there?s a gummy substance where it should be). When I first saw one end of this it was between the lens cover and the camera body as tho part of the mechanism, so I did not touch it. Now I know it?s jamming the lens cover operation is it OK to open the camera case to get it out? Questions: (a) Has anyone done this please? (b) Will this clear error message? Thanks.
