I am not sure when exactly this problem began, but when i tried to use the shredder recently, it did not work. it does not work on auto or reverse.
i thought it might be a paper jam, so i cleaned it out and still nothing.
i took off the screws from the bottom, hoping that i can get in to see what the problem was. it was then that i noticed there was a lot of thick pieces of paper stuck inbetween and there was also a loose platic piece inside.
i am not sure as to the origin of the plastic piece, but it does look like a part of the shredder.
any help would be greatly appreciated
I had the same problem. I found that the shredder was not placed squarely on the basket. There is a small switch under the rim of the shredder (mine is on the back side) that gets depressed when the shredder is placed on the basket. If this switch is not depressed, the shredder will not work.
Make sure the shredder is fully seated on the basket.
Hope this helps!

Yep, had the same problem and finally figured it out.
The metal tab that needs to be pushed is activated when the top is sitting on the shredder properly. Sometimes it looks and feels like it is on properly but the 'rounded' back bit needs to be on the outside of the bin. This way the metal tab will be activated.

It sounds like a stripper that has broken not really sure with an Aurora machine but this is my diagnosis for Fellowes products. You should contact Aurora customer service at 86-21-5916-4588 ext. 498 or by email at edwardchiang@aurora.com.cn

thanx for the repair info, I just fixed my aurora and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work when I put it on the basket, yet when I had it apart and touched both the silver contact on the oblong switch and the white plastic lever it would work. What was wrong, I did'nt have the oblong switch with the silver contact in correctly, it must be set in the slot upside down. Eureka, it worked.

I wave able to solve the problem by making sure the lttle metal contact attached to the switch get depressed when the shredder is put back on the cotainer. Some one suggested to tape it so that it is always pressed, bdut this compromises the safety feature. If u do that it will work, but the shredder will always shredd even when it is not placed on top of the container.

I thought it could be that. I ended up taking my shredder apart to look at it, and I did find that switch. I thought, like you did, that the basket should be pressing that switch, but there was no way, regardless of how it was situated, that that switch would become pressed. So I simply taped it down. I leave the shredder unplugged when not in use.

Right a friend of mine brought over the same Aurora AS662C
When I opened it up to see what was wrong with it, the switch,(a little black rectangular box with a long strip of metal connected to it) was out of place, not letting it run in auto mode, there is a cavity that the switch fits perfectly in and it should be placed upside down, metal strip on top, when you place the cover back on you will notice a piece of that metal sticking out, enabling the f switch to be pressed when on fitted on top of the shredder basket. I have a picture of how the switch should be placed if your interested I can be found at tsusannah08 in yahoo or aol for a picture thanks, hope this helps.
I found the same problem. The shredder did not work because of the basket safety switch wasn't being pressed when the shredder was on the basket. The safety switch has a nicely audible click to it that you should hear when placing the shredder on the basket. If you do not hear the click then you have to rig the switch.
Also, the reason the switch wasn't being pressed when on the basket is that the plastic rib inside the basket had been chipped off.

I have the exact same problem, although I did not take mine apart. It was working perfectly fine. And now suddenly, nothing will trigger the shredders to activate. I don't know why.
Yet another customer with a broken Aurora AS662C. You should see the reviews on Amazon; I was lucky that it lasted three days. It's clearly a jam, and I too removed the screws on the bottom hoping to get better access to the teeth (poking around with a tweezer was remarkably ineffective, ha), but though the screws are there, and though I've played with the switch at the front, it remains tight as a barrel, and I can't get into it at all to even attempt a fix. Does anyone know how to actually take this thing apart?
this shredder has a slot for a credit card, the first card we tryed to shred jamed now the shredder does not work at all.
