I love my PowerShot sx 130. It has been great for last 3 years. The batteries went completely dead and now that I have charged them and reinserted them, everything is hard to turn. The zoom and top

If your mode control dial is hard to rotate, there is chance that a sticky liquid may have sprayed or spilled, Take a q-tip with some rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner and rub around the outer edge, letting small amounts to slide under the dial. Begin turning the knob right away to work it in and loosen the stick. Make sure very little gets transferred from the q-tip, you don't want to short our the camera. It would be wise to do this with out the batteries loaded

My wife is complaining that every time she turns off/on the camera she has to reset the data/time. I understand that when the batteries are changed the settings may be lost, but not simply when the camera...

Sounds to me that there may be another battery inside the camera that is going bad.

Issue: Everytime I power on the camera the Date / Time needs to be set.
Solution: Replacing the Date Battery for the PowerShot A480.

Replacing the Date Battery. If the Date/Time menu appears when the camera power is turned on, the date battery charge is low and the date and time settings have been lost. Please purchase a lithium coin battery (CR1220) and replace it as follows.
Please note that the first date battery may appear to expire relatively quickly after you purchase the camera. This is because it is installed in the camera at the point of manufacture, not when you make the purchase. caution.gifBe particularly careful to keep the date batteries out of the reach of children. Seek medical assistance immediately if a child swallows a battery since corrosive battery fluids can damage the stomach or intestinal walls. 1. Confirm that the camera power is turned off.
2. Open up the battery door / cover and remove the AA Batteries.
3. Remove the date/time battery holder.
4. Grasp the battery and slide it in the direction of the arrow.
a480backupbatt.jpg 5. Insert a new battery with the (+) side facing up.
6. Replace the battery holder and battery cover.
7. When the Date/Time menu appears set the date and time.
note.gif After purchasing the camera and turning on the power for the first time, although the Date/Time menu will appear, you do not need to replace the date battery. If you ever dispose of your camera, first remove the date battery for recycling according to the recycling system of your area.

When camera is turned on no picture appears in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen, it remains black. The batteries are new. I can access the menu, change settings. Everything works but there is no image...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Lost stickies notes. New note list appears under window menu as untitled but it is not visible.

Sticky notes can be saved. But once you close the sticky notes without saving it, you cannot get the details typed on it back. One thing special with sticky notes is, you will get it back even if you shut down the system provided you should not have closed the sticky notes.

Wrong batteries settings prevents access to menu

Charge fully the batteries you have, to prevents the camera distinguish the type of batteries (maybe the camera senses the charge), turn on the camera and you will have access to the menu to set up the batteries type correctly, that´s all.
