I have windows 7. How do I use the software supplied with hitachi dmp460 as it does appear to be compatible.

You can change the compatibility of the executable file by the following procedure.

  • Right of the executable file (*.exe) and Select "Properties".
  • Click the "Compatibility" Tab appearing in the top of the window.
  • Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for".
  • Select the desired OS (Operating System) from the drop down menu and click "Ok".

(Select Windows XP option, If you are sure that the given applications works with that Operating System).

Now try to execute the application, you are trying to Install....

Your best bet is to use the drivers from the CD.
To do this on windows 7, you'll need to use compatibility mode.
Browse to the contents of the cd in windows explorer. Right click on the driver installer file, and select "properties".
Select the "compatibility" tab from the properties window, and select "windows xp sp3" from the drop down menu. Also tick the "run as administrator" on the bottom.

I did this with my own hitachi DZ_MV350A and it worked just fine.

Compatibility settings for older programs to run in Vista and Windows 7
Because of the way some software was written before windows Vista and Windows 7, such as windows XP applications they are not always compatible with the newer operating systems. However Microsoft has included some compatibility settings on executable files to hopefully fix these incompatibilities, so if a program isn't function properly in windows 7 you may wish to try this.<br /><br />1. Right click on the .exe or .msi installer package for the program you wish to install<br /><br />2. In the right click menu select the properties option<br /><br />3. In the tabs that appear select the compatibility tab<br /><br />4. Set the drop down operating system to be compatible with to the operating system that the program is designed to run on.<br /><br />5. Check the box that is labeled "run as administrator"<br /><br />hope this helps your applications that are performing unexpectedly in windows 7<br />

The supplied Picture Package Software is not compatible with the Windows 7 Operating System. The USB Streaming option in the Camcorder is also not compatible with the Windows 7 Operating System, Hence it is required to use the i.LINK or A/V cable for transferring the videos using the Windows Live Movie Maker. The latest Software, Picture Motion Browser Software is compatible with the Windows Vista and 7 Operating System, but is only used for playing back the videos or for editing. To transfer the videos you've to use the i.LINK cable or A/V cable along with the Windows Movie Maker. This is the easy method of transferring the videos. You will also get a better video quality when using the i.LINK cable as compared to the USB cable.

Will this software be compatible with windows7
While it is a program designed for Windows XP there does not appear to be very much information on wether it will or will not function on Windows 7. With tha being said there is a very high possibility of may work on Windows 7 seeing as the operating system has implemented the ability to function with backwards compatibility with a major amount of older software (I tested some software that was designed for Windows 98 that works on Windows 7 surprisingly enough). Best way for you to tell is try installing it and see if it runs, honestly though, it would not surprise me if it did work.

Lost install cd and new PC is windows 7
The manual says this camera's USB connection is only compatible with Windows 98. It may be that Windows 7 already has the drivers necessary. Otherwise it is probably going to be easier to copy videos to the PC by simply taking the disks out of the camera and putting them into the computer's DVD drive, or taking out the memory card and putting it into a card reader on the computer.

If it is the Hitachi editing and playback software that you want to install, then there are alternative programs that will do the same job that can be downloaded for free from the internet. Try download.com.

Though Webroot 6.1 Antivirus works fine on Windows 7, but its Spyweeper (anti spywear), is not seems to be compatible with Windows 7.

You can look for the version of webrrot that is fully compatible with windows 7.
OR
You can go to the free versions of Antivirus availables for Windows 7 (as AVG Free).
