IBM R52 laptop shift key deactivated - pls help

Hi,

i have IBM R52 laptop and i was able to use both shift keys properly, but by mistake i pressed few buttons and both the shift keys are not working now.
I am sure that keys are ok w.r.t. hardware point of view.
Could you please suggest how can i activate the shift key.

Many thanks,

SOURCE: Shift key not working - deactivated

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Accessibility Options. The default panel that comes up will in fact be for the keyboard options. There you can turn off whatever happened to have been turned on. While you're there for each of the three options, press Settings, and uncheck Use Shortcut. Now Windows will no longer misinterpret your random keystrokes.

When I press shift to get symbols, I dont get the ones which on display on the keyboard. What should I do?

I found that if you hold down both left and right shift key at the same time (did this for several seconds), it somehow solved the problem. Hopefully that fixed the issue. Also, go to control panel, click on accessibility options..in the keyboard tab, click on the settings buttons for sticky keys, filter keys and toggle keys and deselect the option to use shortcut..hopefully this will help you

SHIFT KEYS NOT WORKING PROPERLY

Please try to deactivate the Fn (function) key. That will help you get rid of your problem. Press Fn key + Numlock key once and try again. You can also try pressing the Fn key once and type letters in any word processor program with the key combination everytime you press the Fn key once. E.g. open the notepad, press Fn once and after that press ) with Shift.

If you have problem, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Can not hear sound

The thinkpads have a sound key on the keyboard. usually operated by holding down the FN key and pressing the key with the (think its blue) speaker symbol on it. Make sure this is on and the volume is turned up.

Also check that the volume under the Sound option in control panel is on.

If these are suggest obtaining latest sound drivers from IBM web site and reinstalling them.

IBM THINKPAD R52 KEYPAD RELATED PROBLEM

On most IBM laptops, in order to turn numlock on/off, you must press Shift + Scroll Lock. You can tell if numlock is on at-a-glance because a symbol that looks like an arrow pointing up with a "1" in its center is illuminated on the status light display located near the power button.
