Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

My rca t.v. wont stop turning itself on and off.

It turns itself on and off every couple seconds and the volume goes all the way up or all the way down and the channels switch also. It's been doing this all night, i just unplugged it. It's not the remotes, i took the batteries out of them. The t.v. is less than 2 yrs old.

Volume pegs to max. Turns itself on. Goes to menu. Intermittent

This is becoz your Internal Remote control response program chip needs to be replaced! You need it to get repaired at nearest service station. Or it may be due to Your keys pressed continously from remote control. Check both the causes! then decide. It will help you!

MY R.C.A. MODEL 20F420T WILL NOT STAY ON. TURN IT ON IT MAY STAY ON 3 SECONDS TURNS IT SELF OFF TRY AGAIN IT MAY STAY ON 2 SECONDS BACK OFF THANK YOU ????

The first couple of seconds of operation, most TVs are doing some self-test and if something has failed making full power on dangerous (for fire) they will shut down. Either a major component in the horizontal section has failed or the main power supply itself is defective.

What is FPA lock? It is turned on and I don't know how

That is Front Panel Access lock. There are diferent ways to unlock Tv depending on the model:
- Hold down menu on the remote and volume down on the TV itself at the same time for a least 5 secs. The Tv wont say so but it will be unlocked.
-Hold down the 0 on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN buttons on the TV its self at the same time for at least 5 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked.
-Hold down GO BACK on the remote and MENU
on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 5 seconds.
-Hold down EJECT onthe front of the TV and menu button on the remote at the same time for 5 secs.

You apparently have a high voltage arc. Possibly the anode lead to your picture tube. Also the flyback transformer could be arcing. If you're not experience with tv repair, you need to have a tech check it for you. The circuits operate at very high voltage and if you get into it you can get a possibly fatal electrical shock. Be careful !!! Stargazer
