Toner light keeps reappearing even after shaking and changing Toner Catridge. Driving me crazy -- esp. when doing taxes!!!

The toner ran out. I installed a new toner cartridge, but the toner light didn't go out, and it won't print. I installed a new drum/toner assembly and it still wouldn't work. I tried re-installing and that didn't work either. Help!

I have the same problem with my HL-2040 and tried the fix. According to the instructions, after step 6 the ready light should turn red. This does not happen and when I close the door the toner light comes back on.

    Any other suggestions?

only prints one page ,then toner light comes on.

I then take out the drum, remove toner cartridge and manually turn the gear until the little white lever starts to raise. If I then reinsert the drum and toner I can get it to print ONE page then the toner light comes back on and I must repeat the process for each page. The print quality is fine by the way.

  • thekabuki Apr 16, 2009

Well, tried covering the sensors, using the reset procedure above, moved the half circle thing back to the 10'o clock position and still nothing. It will print one page...perfectly too-no blotches, no fading, nothing....and then it will stop after the first page.

any other ideas? It is definitely not out of toner

My Brother HL5250DN shows toner light on (yellow) and status light on (red) even after toner cartridge replaced with new one. Already tried reset by holding down go button. Is the printer dead?

Try this..
1: Turn off power and remove toner/drum
2: Tape the little spring loaded lever just inside the printer on the upper left hand side in the *DOWN* position! Do not replace drum yet and...
3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.
4: Turn off printer, remove tape from lever, replace drum and turn back on.

Toner light on, will not print

These printers rely on a manual lever on the side of the cartridge to tell the printer there is a new toner cart. The lever has two arms for the 550 (low yield) and one lever for the high yield cart. It sounds like the gears were not reset on the cart. Is the cartridge brand new, or remanufactured? I can give you more info on how to reset the cartridge.....

The drum light came on (Brother HL 5240) and I replaced the drum with a new one and it still will not work... Any suggestions?

I continued looking and found where someone else had the same problem. I opened the front cover, held down the go key for 10 seconds and closed the door. This reset something because it works now.

Toner light won't go away.

Ok, now I can help you.

You have a fatel error in your printer. This is unfortunate, but I call them as I see them. The fuser unit has failed and will require replacement. A simple enough task for a technician, but it might take you a little longer. If you hunt around on the internet you should be able to find a fuser unit from a local brother service agent, if they will sell it to you. Otherwise you might be able to look up brother spare parts and you should find something.

Please remember to rate my assistance.

Kindest regards
