Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezernot freezing - 2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

What setting do I use to make the freezer freeze food

When you are freezing something, set your freezer on its highest setting. However, if you are going to leave your freezer empty for a long time, you should change the setting to a lower one. Here's a great tip for ice cream: place a tub of ice cream in a ziplock bag before putting it in the freezer; it prevents freezer burn. You know when your ice cream gets so cold, it's hard to scoop out? Doing this stops that, it's keeps the ice cream just soft enough for easy scooping!

My ice cream is melting and things have started to thaw

Turn the t'stat up to 9. You want to save the meat and ice cream. It sounds like you may be losing freon. Get it looked at soon so you won't come home and find meat soft and ice milk.

The freezer won't run so how us it that the compressor is very hot after several hours?

ice cream is always the last to freeze and a temp of minus -10 degrees is usually required to get it to get hard. if you put the ice cream in the door it will be especially tough to freeze. a good thermometor is a good investment as you can observe the temps. usually ten degrees or 20 degrees is what they run. yes they do cycle on and off as long as they hold temps thats good. the outside of the freezer gets warm because the hot compressed refrigerant is spread through piping near its surface giving up its heat of compression . setting the stat to max will freeze the ice cream eventually but utility bill suffers . good luck

Upright Freezer not cold enough

Honestly it sounds as if you have a sealed system issue, most likely low on freon.

My freezer does not keep my ice cream hard, yet it freezes meats, etc. without a problem. What is wrong?

You don't note whether or not you've adjusted the thermostat. Ice cream (and juices) requires at least zero degrees, if not minus 5 degrees, for storage. Meats, fish, bread, etc. can become rock hard at much higher temperatures. Try setting the thermostat lower.

Belling chest freezer, should the fast freeze button be switched on all the time?? ice-cream an desserts are always very hard when taken out

Hi!!
No, the fast freeze button should only be activated when you load a warm or lots of items at once. It should disengage by itself after a preprogrammed amount of time. If Ice cream is too hard, check your temp. settings.
Good Day!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Our sub zero seems to defrost in cycles. Not sure why ice cream melts in there while other meats remain frozen. Is this an expensive problem?

Hi,
The defrost may be lasting too long....and ice cream is always the first thing to melt... you need at least 10 F to keep ice cream hard...

You need to remember heat rises and cold air falls. The best way to load a freezer is to put meats on the bottom. They take alot longer to freeze and thaw and can save your stock if you have a power failure. Keep non-critical things like ice cream, ice, and other thing towards the top for quicker access.

Freezer not freezing

not freezing icedraem is an issue, bread not so much, different breads contain different ingrediants that may or may not freeze, forst offthough wher is unit located??? in garage??? if so be aware that it may not operate efficiently ion ambient temps lower then 55 degrees, but if this is in your kitchen i would suspect a "refrigeration"/sealed system issue, perhaps "low on charge and not able to maintain a frozen set temp. Meat may stay frozen ( for a little while anyway, but the ice cream is the first to show indications of problem
