Line, faults & possible causes to LCD screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent.
Maybe your screen is going bad or the video card inside the computer is
going bad. Try connecting another monitor to the computer to isolate
the problem. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or
co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor
displays ok without the vertical ribbon then your lcd screen is bad and
your video card is good. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same
vertical ribbon as your lcd screen then your video card inside the
computer has an issue.
The video will show on most systems when you
reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit
the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the
correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key
will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Check the connections between the DVD player and the TV. If using RCA cables, replace them, as one may be defective. If using S-video, check its connection is secure. It is probably just a bad cable connection or in the case of the standard yellow-white-red RCA, this is probably defective at its sealed plug points - replace this.
If checking/replacing cables does not fix the issue, the DVD player and/or TV may require workshop attention, which could prove costly. I hope it's just something simple, like bad cables/connections.
the obvious check would be the mains plug .if this is ok could be down to a dry joint or capacitor fault. amonst other faults. try taping round the back cover if the problem stops you have a bad conection or dry joint.good luck farr64
