First lets get the basics out of the way, did you buy a 2.5" laptop harddrive? Good if you did.

Unplug your laptop, turn it over, remove the battery, find the harddrive cover.

In most dells its on the side
example: http://www.buildorbuy.net/images/laptop_pics/3remove_screws.jpg

if its on the side like that, remove the screws and in most laptops you have to pull it up to unlock it, now pull it out. some laptops might have a simple pull it out system, you didnt say witch one you have so i cant be sure.

If the hdd is not on the side then its on the bottom
example: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/ToshibaM205/dismantle/big/Toshiba-Portege-M205-02.jpg

you need to remove the old harddrive from the slot, remove the hdd cradle.

install the new harddrive in the cradle plug it in. put the screws back on.

Your done.

Acer aspire 5100- 3949 NEED Hard Drive Drivers

You don't need a hard drive driver, this is taken care of by the BIOS.
If the hard drive has disappeared then it is most likely the hard drive is dead. Go into the BIOS configuration to see if it has detected the hard drive, if it is not detected that is why the laptop won't bootup.
To confirm or check if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port (you may need assistance from a computer savy friend).
If this computer cannot see this as an external drive then it is faulty. If the computer can see this drive as an external drive and you can open the folders and files on the hard disk then the hard drive is OK and the fault is probably a faulty disk controller on the laptop. This cannot be fixed as it is part of the motherboard and the moherboard needs to be replaced and this may not be a cost effective solution. It may be better to put your money towards a new computer.

It cant find operating systyem with new hard drive

First, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Now, remove all the covers on the bottom of the computer untill you discover the hard drive. (replace the other covers) Remove the hard drive and keep it handy. The type of connections where you removed the hard drive are important. If there are about 44 pins in two rows, that is an IDE drive, If there are two small plastic connectors with contacts inside, that is a SATA drive. Now, you know what kind of drive to get. You ca buy it locally in a store or order it over the internet. There may be covers that must be removed from the old drive and put on the new drive to properly install it. so keep the old drive untill you have the new one properly installed.

Acer Aspire 5050 won't boot at all

Yes, it's not the hard drive.

More than likely it's your motherboard.

There's not much you can do besides trying to boot the computer without the battery, and removing and reinstalling the memory.

Hopefully you'll get lucky!

Downloading pictures

Two ways, 1- burn the pictures to disc using an external, since I'm sure your 27 doesn't have a burner. Standard issue burners are a little after it's time. 2- purchase an IDE to USB laptop hard drive cable. This cable will allow you to connect the 27's hard drive directly to your new computer as a slave or storage device, and will show up in "my computer" as another drive.
