My Brother PQ1500 always sewed perfectly until one day I was winding a bobbin and when I took my foot off the pedal, it would not stop..in fact it seemed to speed up. I finally just shut the machine off as the bobbin winder was spinning and now the machine will not work at all. It still has power because the light turns on, but when I step on the the pedal, there doesn't seem to be a connection.
I thought I would try a new pedal first...but when I call Brother to order one, I am put on hold so long that I finally must hang up.
Do you think the problem could be as simple as a broken foot pedal, or does this sound like something that would require me to bring the machine in for service? (Nearest service center is far away from my home.) Thank you.
Call your "local" Brother dealer and ask for a price.
Then compair that and the cost of a round-trip (or maybe they would mail it to you) with the price and cost for S&H at the above site.
Taking the machine in for service is something that should be done on a regular basis and the cost starts at about $70 plus parts.
If you decide to take the machine in for service, explain to the dealer that you live far away and could they service the machine while you wait. Make sure they know what the problem is and also ask if the power pedal needs replaced, will they have to order it.

Sewing Machines have a couple of ways to start bobbin winding.
1. Push the bobbin spindle all the way to the right then use the foot pedal to start winding.
2. Push the bobbin spindle all the way to the right, Push in on the indented area in the center of the "flywheel" on the right side of the machine then use the foot pedal to wind.
Hope this helps.
You may have to unplug the foot pedal, I don't have this machine but that's what happens with my Brother when I try to wind a bobbin & haven't unplugged the foot pedal.
Hope this helps.
make sure the plug for the foot pedal is connected securely to the machine.
could be the plug in the machine has a problem even tho the foot petal is plugged in
could be the foot petal has gone out and needs to be checked.
hello, the E1 code simply means the machine is working so hard, you can follow the information below to help you fix the problem,
The instructions for bobbin winding tell you to click the start button
for the bobbin to wind. When you do that you get that E1 with a
beeping. What they don't explain is that in order to press that "UP"
arrow button to get the bobbin to wind..........you need to UNPLUG the
foot control. So, in other words it to be used for sewing w/o a foot
pedal. Now instead of doing as per instructions, assuming you've
plugged everything in (foot pedal), after winding is finished just
press the foot pedal and your off and running or sewing as the case may
be. BTW, look it up in the TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION OF YOUR MANUAL. please kindly rate the solution if it;s helpful,
If you can't turn the spindle easily with your fingers, it needs a drop of oil. Use only one small drop, as excess oil will cause the tire to slip. After oiling, turn the spindle until it moves fairly freely and then engage it with the motor.
