Question about Sharp VT-G14 14 in. TV/VCR Combo

TV won't stay on Channel 3

I have satellite TV. My Sharp TV needs to stay on Channel 3 (or 4) in order to receive the picture. Every time I turn the set off, it starts the set-up process all over again. How can I get the TV to stay on Channel 3?

Well, the only thing that seems to be working so far is to plug AV cables into the "input 2" ports (on the front of TV). I plugged in my PS2, without turning it on. It has not switched at random since (about 30 minutes - it had been switching off and on for the past 2 hours). Anyone else have similar success?

SOURCE: sharp lc-22sv6u won,t power on. no green light.

Sound like the TV is in protection mode. This happens when a part goes bad inside. the TV turns OFF to protect the other parts from being damaged.
Most commonly it's a power supply related issue. A bad capacitor or transformer on the power supply board is to blame.
For a do-it-yourself fixer with electronic experience, a Service Manual is the best for trouble shooting the problem down to the bad part. Normally, you can find it over the internet for less than $20.

There is a software update for this model via the Sharp website. Included is a link to the compressed folder. Once you uncompressed the folder there are instructions in the folder on how to install the update. It doesn't specifically say this is a fix but as a TV technician personally its the fist thing I would try.

SOURCE: Sharp Aquos HDTV Failed to receive broadcast

I too have this issue I beleive what is happening is the integrated tuner is not locking on to the channel because of a weak signal and then sending that error message . I am going to replace the cable from the splitter to this tv and see what happens. I have another new tv just installed from that splitter and it has all chanels. Remember to RE- run the locate all channels after anything is done to the cable splitter etc.

Tv stays on one channel,no color or picture just ghost or outline, i have a Sharp lc46sb 54u

Check the settings to see if it is locked on channel 3 for external tuner source to have an input from a cable box ant in that needs 3 to function or from some other externally decoded signal like a vcr. Does the TV have a Digital tuner or the old analog tuner? If it's digital you can hook up a rabbit ear antenna with the UHF output on it & should be able to tune in some stations. If it's the old style then you will need a converter box to get it to receive any stations.
Fist check the settings to see if it has it set to lock on channel 3 for external tuner source.

Without the specific model number, I can't give you teh exact sequence, but you need to setup the set to only enable channel 3. Work your way through the menus to select channel 3 as your "favorite" channel. Disable all of the others. The set should then turn on as channel 3 at all times. Feel free to post the model number and I'll pass along more details.

Can i hook up an old tube type tv to a new high satellite dish? i dont care if i get high def picture just want a regular picture.

Yes there is an option for ouptuting 480i signal from most hd receivers. You will need to check the specifics for the satellite dish receiver as to the channel that the TV should be on as well as how to set it to the resolution that you need. (I know some Dish receivers need channel 60 for the SD TV (coax (RF) connection) when it is TV 2 but channel 3 or 4 for TV 1.) Also check your TV so that you can use the best possible input available.

However, you may not be able to read the closed captions unless you enable them on the receiver. (Apparently, the encoding has changed.)

The manuals for some satellite company receivers are on their website. For example, Dish network manuals are here: http://www.dishnetwork.com/supportsection/manuals . Their manual for the Solo VIP 211k describes connecting the receiver to a SD TV on page 91 (page 97 in the PDF version).

I hope this helps.

(I'm not aware of any satellite system that doesn't use a set-top box. If you do not have a receiver, then the above does not apply and you may not be able to get a signal.)

I unpugged the cable from my tv to change the place where i had my tv and now when i screwed the cable back in to the tv and their is no picture on the tv now what do i do or press on the remote control

On a satellite system the receiver must stay connected to the location it was installed in order to access programming or be connected to a location that has been specifically wired to allow you to switch outlets. If you did not ask for this at the time of install it would not have been included due to additional expenses that may arise out of this action.

Assuming that you have the receiver at the original location ensure that the cable is on the 3-4 out port on the back of the receiver and that the other end is on the proper port on the back of your tv as some have more than one port since the introduction of digital signals as the primary communication signal on newer equipment.

If you are good to go with the above the next step is to ensure you are on the correct channel and or source. Try going to channel three using the channel button on the tv itself. If you can not get there you may need to go into the tv menu and perform a channel scan.

If you can not change the channel try using the input or source buttonn on the tv itself or the tv original remote to cycle through the inputs and get on to the source named TV or you may just see a numerical value displayed as the input. Once there you will need to use the tv channel buttons to get to channel 3.

If all of the above fails try using a dvd player to ensure that the tv is still able to display a picture and that the TV is not the source of the issue.

Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix Ya.com.

Are you getting a snowy/blue/black screen on your TV? To get your picture back, you need to get the TV back to the correct channel or input. If the receiver is in the same room as this TV, the TV should be on channel 3/4 (normally 3) or an input setting depending on the TV. TV 2 (away from receiver) would be on channel 60/73. If you have the TV remote, put the TV on one of those channels. If you get a picture when the TV is placed on the correct channel, press and release the SAT button. This puts the remote back in SAT mode and will now operate the receiver.

If you don't have a picture, unplug the receiver for 10 seconds from the electrical outlet and plug back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and re-acquire Satellite signal. i hope this helps.

I have a sony projection tv and the picture and sound are there, the cable feed is good, but the picture has a lot of static. Almost like a weak connection.

Check the input channel is 3 or 4 if you are using an external receiver, satellite or cable. If it is set on 4 and the input receiver is 3 then you will have adjacent channel "bleedover". make sure the two units are set on the same channel.

Turn on goes blue then turns off

The most common reason for a TV to display a blue screen with no picture is because the source device has not been set to the proper mode.

If you are using a cable or satellite set-top box, ensure that it is turned on and set to an active station. If the set-top box is connected to the television using a coaxial cable, then the television should be set to Channel 3 or 4 to receive the signal.

If you have are using a VCR that is turned on, but not playing a tape and not tuned to a receivable channel, then a blue screen will be displayed on the TV. To resolve this, turn off the VCR or tune it to a receivable channel. If a cable or satellite set-top box is connected to the VCR using a coaxial cable, then the VCR should normally be set to Channel 3 or 4 to receive the signal.

If the blue screen is not because of a connected VCR or set-top box, the TV may require service.

TV will not turn on to channel 4 everytime. I have a cable box and need the tv to remain on channel 4.

As long as the tv is not unplugged it should stay on the same channel when turned back on. If you have the tv plugged into the cable box, when the box is shut off it basically unplugs your tv and the tvs memory is reset. The tv should be plugged in to its own outlet or leave the cable box on and turn off the tv. If you turn everything on, cable box and tv, and have a picture, go into the tv menu and auto program the channels, it should only lock in on channel 4 since it will be the only channel the tv will receive.
