Code E 74

An E74 error is indicated when the lower-right quadrant of the ring indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: "System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support", with the code E74 at the bottom . The error is caused when there's a video problem, because the Xbox 360's hardware scaler chip is damaged.

Microsoft covers repairs for the E74 error for a period of three (3) years from the original purchase date of the console. E74 is an error related to video. It's either:

• Bad video cable
• Bad graphic chipset issue

Try a different video cable, unplug and plug it back in to make sure the video cable is seated properly. If it's neither of these issues, the only thing to do is to contact Microsoft's customer service and get it replaced/fixed.

The E74 Error is a problem with your graphics chip. It's very much like the Red Ring of Death and you need a repair. MS warranties units for 3 years from the E74 and if you are still in this warranty I suggest going to www.xbox.com/support and requesting a free repair from them. If you aren't in warranty any longer I would suggest seeking a skilled professional to assist you.

Code E74 1 red light flashing and error message on screen right? It is the scaler chip, it happens because the scaler chip starts overheating. If you stop the heat build up on the chips then you should be fine.

Try using a lens cleaner these are cheap to buy.e74 and 1 red ring usualy indicates a disk read error

Having the e-74 code is when the video chip on the 360 over heats and becomes un soldered your best bet is to turn the 360 on with a towel over it and wait for 3 red lights the call microsoft and tell them the 3 lights issue dont mention the 1 light or it will cost you dearly around 150$

this is bad because you need to call 1800myxbox and they will fix it in a about a 2 weeks they will send it back fixed the same thing happened to me.thts the only way to get it fixed

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known
to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected
directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
If you just got it take it back, if you have had it for a little while you need to call microsoft and send it off for repair
