Question about Dell Inspiron 2200 Notebook

Overheating problem My notebook overheats and shuts down. The vents are clear. The tech I took it too said that the lamp is heating up and causing this problem. He offered no solution and I am not sure what he means by the "lamp". Does anyone have any more information for me about this? Is this a part that can be replaced? Thank you, Deborah When on, my laptop power connection overheats when plugged in. (The adaptor into the laptop gets so hot that it is almost too hot to touch) Also the screen will go black after a few minutes of use, and will only come back if lid is closed for a few minutes. If I unplug it, and then use it - it operates fine. Do I need to replace the connection and/or the adaptor?

This could be several issues with this machine why it could be overheating could be a software issue on the machine could be a bad fan could be processor issue, instead of spending a bunch of money trying new things it could be a small issue. Send it to the fastlaptoprepair.com they have fixed my machine with a different issue but it was fast and very inexpensive.

With all respect for the repairman, he must have been a bit confused.
The only lamp inside a laptop is the one behind the display, and when it overheats, the laptop does not shut down. The lamp blows and laptop keep working with no picture or dim picture on screen, that is all.
Most common cause for overheating on a laptop is the fan on top of CPU, if it is not working properly or not well adhering to cpu surface, then the laptop will turn off after a while.
When fan is ok,a faulty motherboard or faulty CPU can cause the computer to shut down, no lamp at all in all this, the repairman must have confused your laptop with a laser printer.
Here is a tool to check computer temperature and fan speed, click where it says SpeedFan 4.33. under download.
...if you cannot fix it by yourself I suggest changing repairman...

Well... solution above was for debora's problem, second post with adapter overheating is a different matter.
If it is the adapter in overheating change it immediately. The adapter overheats when there is a short circuit inside the adapter. Do not use such a faulty adapter, it is an hazard for you and for the laptop, as it can blow at any time.
Dell adapters are not expensive, you can buy a replacement on ebay for 15 or 20 $$. Change it immediately

Computer shuts down after 10-15 min

Overheating
When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.
