Canon Powershot Importing Problems

I want to import shots from my Canon Powershot on my PC in the office. I normally do this with iPhoto on my Mac at home, no questions asked but it is asking me to run a disc on the PC. Is there an alternative, can I download this software from the net?

Hi,

Depending on the operating system running in your office PC which could either be Windows XP or Vista, drivers are downloadable/available from the Canon website here.

Additionally, you can also verify if the Canon PowerShot S400 is Vista compatible. Should you still be having issues after downloading OS appropriate drivers, pls post back.

Alternately, you can remove the Canon PowerShot S400's memory card and pop it into a memory card reader with the USB plug connected to the PC's USB port. Windows will treat the memory card + reader as an external storage device and would be a matter of drag & drop. copy/paste.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

iphoto is just for still photos. Use a card reader to download your videos to a folder you create on your desktop. Double click on the video and Quicktime will play it. You can use imovie to edit it.

All my pictures on camera are gone! How do I "see" the card on my mac computer to find them again?

When you import pictures into iPhoto there is a setting for deleting the imported pictures from the camera. Be sure to uncheck that setting if you want to keep the pictures on the camera after importing them into iPhoto.
To see the pictures (if any) without iPhoto, obtain a SD card reader (as little as $2 on Amazon) and plug the card from your camera into it, and the adapter into a USB port on the camera.

My canon powershot sd600 is not downloading to my iphotos

iPhoto deals with still photographs. For videos, try using iMovie or some other video management program.

If your computer has a SD card reader, you might be better off putting your memory card into your computer and just copying the data.

Have you made sure your iPhoto is up to date? Perhaps a new update caused this problem.. Maybe you should try an older version of the software. Also, you might want to try other software. (I think you are on a mac?), you might want to try the software that came with the camera, if it works on your computer.
