Earphone jack for ipod 30GB onlu works sometimes...
My ipod earphone jack will not work even after using a number of different headsets..the scarey thing about it, is that i can see an imprint at the top of the screen when i insert the headphone into the ipod with abit of force. The clicker still works, and like i said above my ipod plays music sometimes.

Hi Humed, your best bet would be to determine whether or not it is the iPod that is malfunctioning or the headphones themselves.
To do this I would recommend plugging a separate set of headphones into your iPod that you know are functional. If they work then obviously your iPod earphones are malfunctioning. If the new headphones that you have checked are still not working when connected to the iPod then the problem is likely with the audio jack on the iPod. In that case you should determine whether or not you have a warranty and send it in for repair at the place you purchased it or directly to Apple.
I wouldn't worry though it's likely that your iPod earphones are just getting a little old and the wear inside the white insulator have begun to fray, you could manually try cutting open the wire and reconnecting the wires but you may end up making it worse, and headphones are relatively cheap to come by.
Thanks for asking and I hope I helped.
i have the same problem. its not the headphones. its the itouch. its something to do with the jack-i think. because whenever i jiggle the plug eventually i can hear some of my music eventually. its a pain. and so how do i fix that ish?
i had have the same problem.....but im tolazy to go to the stor and let is fix ......but i found a solution....my right earphone didn't worked only if i applyed preasure but i thought the jack doesnt make good contact so i put around the jack some aluminum foil and putit inand iwork perfect:P!!!!!
Well I had The Same Problem. I Thought it was the headphones and it wasnt. I ended up ripping the new headphones.
I Was really mad i Opened up the whole Player and Disconnected Everywhere and found that it was the earphone jack. the soldier it had was very cheap so it had no contact whatsoever. I connected it by bending the metal and closed the player back up and till today it now works.
I think it is your earphone jack. sansas have very cheap earpphone jack soldier or something.
I encourage you to open up the player and check the soldier. I you want contact me and ill post a video on how i did it. Hope this works.
Ok often this is caused by one of the cables in the earphones breaking.. try another set. Sometimes it can be the socket on the unit breaking at the solder joint on the PCB, if it is, and ya can solder? it is a pretty easy fix. But I would "Punt" for a broken earphone lead.
