Finalizing both sides

I have finalized my disk - presumably when you finalize it does both sides at once. Perhaps I'm wrong and you have to do each side separately. Whatever! I can only play back the one side on the computer. Both play well on the camcorder.

A Dual Layered (DVD-R DL) disc has two recording layers on the same side of the disc. No recording is made on the 'other' side of the disc.

Finalising the disc will finalise both layers. Most probably your computer DVD drive cannot read both layers of the DVD-R DL disc. DVD-R DL discs can only be played back on DVD devices that are compatible with dual layered discs.

Check your computer DVD drive spec to see whether it can read DL discs.

Finalizing

Use a name-brand DVD, such as HP, Verbatim, etc. and make sure it is a DVD+R or DVD-RW/-R disk only.
It is most likely that the DVD you are using is not compatible.
The disk is still usable, but you can only read it on that player.

Press the MENU button, then select SETUP, FINALIZE, YES and press the joystick. Select whether or not to create a top menu, then press the joystick. When the confirmation message appears, select YES then press the joystick. hope this helps you. julie

Finalizing

IF THAT DISC WAS RECORDED ON AND THEN REMOVED BEFORE FINALIZING IT WILL NOT FINALIZE. THE CAMERA LOOSES THE MAIN INFORMATION TABLE FOR THAT RECORDING. ONLY THING TO DO NOW IS, IF THE DISC CAN STILL PLAYBACK ON THE CAMERA THEN CONNECT IT TO A DVD RECORDER VIA THE AV PORT AND RECORD.

Can't Finalize a disk on Panasonic DMR-EH60 DVD Recorder

It sounds like you haven't selected DVD first. When dubbing to DVD, you need to do this in HDD mode. When finalizing, you need to be in DVD mode for the finalizing options to come up.

Finalizing vs. not finalizing a DVD-R. DVD-R vs. DVD-RAM?

on standard players. The write all the information that a standard player looks for to read the disk. Nothing is lost if you take the DVD out of the recorder without finalizing it. On a PC, you would tell the software to eject the disk. Later model hardware can usually reopen a disk after it has been finalized. Is this a typo? 'I know that the disc cannot be seen in a DVD player after being finalized'. It should read; I know that the disc can be seen in a DVD player after being finalized

Finalizing Discs

The only reason that you have to finalize a DVD-R disc is so that you can play it back in an external DVD. Once finalized, you can no longer add motion video to that particular disc. Discs that are not finalized can still be played back when inserted in the DVD-camcorder.
