Found This HelpfulSometimes something will go wrong in your washing machine that will cause it to lock up or stall. An overloaded washer or a brief power surge can cause this. The washer may not drain or spin properly, or it may stop the cycle in the middle of the wash. Another cause may be that the washer was stopped before the cycle was able to complete. In this case, the washer will spin and drain over the next 24 hours, but it will stall before reaching the final spin. GE has two simple methods to reset the controls
For Newer Washers:
1
Unplug the washer.
2
Twist the control dial around the cycle settings.
3
Place the dial on any setting other than the final spin.
4
Ensure that the water line is securely attached to the washer.
5
Plug the washer back into the wall (making sure it has gone at least 30 seconds without power).
Is the machine in Spin Cycle when this is happening? What part of the washer selected cycle does the Cycle Status LED say the machine cycle is in. If it’s in the Spin Cycle I think you have a clutch issue.Do you take any error codes to the LEDconsole display such as dC or uC?
If you stop the machine in that cycle and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete?
Do you want to DIY the fix?Let me know and I will try to help…..Rich
more likely an itntermitent lid switch problem as the washer strats it's spin cycle the motion is causuning the lid switch to open making the washer think some one has opened the lid and it shuts down to be safe check the switch make sure it hasn't come loose and check the actuator on the lid sometimes a plastic piece near the front of the lid that goes into sort of a key hole Good Luck
Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......
