I think first you have to change your motherboard then start your comp. and run the motherboard supporting C.D. on comp.and install it. After that remove it and put your old one and do the same functio. by that i don't have to trace your Motherboard circuits.

Emachine cooling fans will not turn off with power button, no POST

From your description it sounds like Electrolytic Capacitor's on the motherboard are fried

The one's used in the motherboard voltage regulator circuit, and more specifically the one's used to control voltage for the Processor.

Tall statement?

"I was using the PC as usual (not working on it). It just rebooted itself; came on for a minute, and then shut off; with the exceptions of the fans. They got very loud."

Processor isn't working. All the power is going to the fans.

Starts at 0:04

This is a video of why your computer restarts.
It's because of bad Electrolytic Capacitors, in the motherboard voltage regulator circuit, and more so, the one's that control voltage for the Processor.

Eventually the capacitors fail enough, and/or more than the needed amount of capacitors fail; and the Processor turns off.
(BIOS turns it off)

Isn't stated in the video. However, I used the video for reference for you.

NOTE that capacitors, used in the motherboard voltage regulator circuit
for the Processor, are not just the one's immediately surrounding the Processor.

You have to follow the circuit traces on the motherboard, (Bottom and Top), and follow from the processor socket.

Some of the capacitors used for the Processor, could be pretty far away from it, on the motherboard.

[Circuit traces. Also known as signal traces.
Think; Very tiny thin flat copper wires, on the motherboard ]

eMachines are a budget computer. NOTHING wrong with that.
However one of the cost cutting choices they make, is using low quality capacitors.

All of the above sound like a foreign language? Sorry, not meant to be.
The main thing is to use the following link for reference, and look at the capacitors on your motherboard.
(Close. May need a light)
{Power unplugged from computer, and FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions}

Then suspect the Power Supply. Need guidance in testing it post back in a Comment.

Games crashing and icons on my desktop scattering

hi this does sound like your graphics card has a conflict with another device, your best bet would be to go to the site of your graphics card manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your card, un-install ( actually delete ) the graphics card from the system, ie...add and remove programs, look for drivers for your graphics card, then remove, also go to your device manager and delete it from the hardware so there is no trace of it ( don't worry it will still work it will just default to minimal settings on re-boot) re-boot the system, if it says found new hardware and tries to install your card click no you don't want to install it, then find where you downloaded the drivers and install them and then that should stop the blue screens, games..this also could be the sound card has a conflict with something, as i know allot of games just crash to the desktop for this reason, try doing the same for the sound card, download, remove and install, as above...any more probs just reply and i will see what else there is, if you can also post the blue screen error on here to will be helpful as you can determine what the cause is...hope this helps

Comp doesn't power anything

It's likely to be these four main culprits:

Video Card / GPU

Start by opening up the case (with the power removed of course) and try removing and reseating your video card and memory sticks.

Then restart the computer.

If nothing changes, try removing the bios battery with the computer unplugged for about five minutes then put it back.

If those don't work then it's probably a motherboard problem, but if you get any beeps messages or anything else changes, let me know and I'll throw some ideas your way.

Which USB wireless adapter ?

Tiger direct
What you have to do is make sure anything you order, works for your laptop. I go with the usb adapters because I can always use them on desktops or towers later. With the PCMCIA card bus cards you can only use them on laptops.

the one I have linked to at Tigerdirect is as a minimum, 266 processor, Win98,ME,2000,XP, and Vista.

the one at geeks is pentium1 as a minimum, which puts the processor at probably a 166 up to new machines and most operating systems but not Vista supported.

You might try any local resources that are available.
