Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver

Voice prompts disappeared!

I must have inadvertently changed a setting or something but the voice prompts on my Garmin C330 have suddenly disappeared. It's rather distracting to have to constantly glance at the screen for directions - how do I turn the voice on again? Thanks for your time.

Bingo! I apologize for taking so long to reply, but that's exactly what the problem was. Even though there's a volume icon onscreen, the dial on the side that I didn't know existed had been turned all the way down. I have my voice back - thank you!

It's possible that you just turned the volume all the way down. Otherwise just look into the system settings....

Why did the voice prompts disappear

Your voice may need to be reselected. I have seen this happen before. I assume you can hear tones when you press the buttons.

Go to your Tools menu by clicking on the wrench icon. Next go into "Language". Choose voice and make sure you have at least one voice selected. If No voices are listed you can reload them through Garmins website.

Cheers

Can I change the voice on my gps?

You can change the voice and you can choose British English, Dansk, Deutsch, Espanol, Francais, Franais Canadien, Italiano, Nederlands, Nederlands/ Belgie, Norsk, Portugues, Suomi or Svenska. You turn on the Garmin and on the bottom press onto the tool ( looks like a wrench or something ) and it will bring you to a screen with several choices just click on language and it will then let you choose. We change them around for fun sometimes. Good Luck

Portable GPS

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts. If one of these types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.

In order to change this setting on the StreetPilot c550/580, please follow these steps:
  1. In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
  2. Tap on "Locale"
  3. The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice.
  4. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
  5. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed.
Your device should now speak street names.

Changing the voice

No, but you can change the spoken language. New models Streetpilot C5xx and Nuvi allow you to change the voice either to male or female.

Check your voice prompts.  make sure you are using either Jack or Jane.  the standard voice is the same as the voice on C330 which only gives you directions.
