when I plug in power it dims the screen, when on battery it lightrens up

Check your power settings. For more info I need to know what OS you are using. Windows XP has settings for both plugged in, and on battery, these settings may also be in your BIOS/Setup. Should just be a setting. If more info is needed, please reply with exact model number, and OS.
