I was told when ordering it that it was rechargeable; - well it will take rechargeable batteries, BUT i suspect that was not what you asked the salesman. I think they have been a bit naughty with you...
That camera is supplied with ordinary batteries see the specification here http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/Digital_Camera/PowerShot/PowerShot_A1100_IS/index.asp?specs=1 scroll down to power source section,. BUT you will see that camera will also take NiMH Batteries(NB4-300) which are rechargeable, you can get these batteries and a charger very cheaply online - so yes it will take rechargeable batteries but does not come supplied - That can be useful, because if you run out of charge the camera is useless, with these type of batteries at least you can keep a spare set, and if necessary goto any shop and buy AA size batteries very easily, I know I could have used that facility on one of my cameras which takes a special battery and even with a charged spare - we ran out of power ....

How do a I change the date or remove the date from a picture already taken on my Canon Power Shot A1100?

That date is part of the picture once it is taken, the only way to remove it is with software like Adobe Photoshop and you can use the Clone Stamp tool to copy a similar part of the picture and basically cover it up. With some practice you can remove it without being able to tell it was ever there.

I dropped my cannon powershot a1100 it'll play back the pictures on the memory card but the lens won't come out to take any pictures. and when i push the on/off button it won't work. how can i fix it?

It sounds like you dropped it on the lense, and the little motor inside that moves it broke. If you still have a warrenty on the camera, exchange it at the place you got it or send it to the manufacturer.

Can I recharge the battery via my PC ?? (no original Charger avlbl)

No. The camera does not have any charging circuitry built in, and connecting via the USB port drains the battery faster since the camera has to use juice to communicate with the computer (even if only to say it has nothing to say).

You can order a CB-2LV from Canon at
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd1100_is#SuppliesAndAccessories

If you're willing to go with a third-party charger, one such is available at

My batteries dont last long. I put in new batteries and after only maybe one hour of use i get the change battery prompt.

Battery life really depends on a lot of things the amount of use you are giving the LCD screen, the temperature you are using the camera in meaning the colder it is the shorter the battery life, not all batteries are created equal and most "no name" brands are lacking in staying power. Your camera is able to work with rechargeable batteries Ni-MH AA's will last at least three times the length of the Alkaline types. You can buy a set of four rechargeable batteries with their charger fairly inexpensively and will pay for themselves very quickly because you can keep charging them.

After having my Canon PowerShot A1100 IS for a year, the batteries would die after only a few pictures. I was using regular AA batteries in it and not NIMH batteries.

Crazy thing about "regular" AA's I ran into the same thing and just shook ,my head but the regular batteries just don't last in the cameras at all switch to a set of rechargeable and you'll get a lot more pictures per charge. On my little camera I went from getting about 30 pictures to a set of AA's to over 300 with the rechargeable type. I don't know what country you are in but Sony has a set that when you buy them they are already charged AND once used and charged again will hold up to 80% of their power for a year just sitting, basically unheard of for a rechargeable battery

I have a cannon powershot a1100 IS and it keeps telling me that the card is locked..what should i do?

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.
