I have a Mitsubishi VS-5004R and it goes to a black screen but the sound still plays. If I leave it unplugged for a while it will come back on but goes out after 20 or 30 minutes. What could be the problem?

Bad capacitors made by Rubicon in many power circuits......
pull chassis...look for over-heated areas for repair in horiz,vert.
and power supply,check any / all caps with ESR meter.....T.

You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV.
Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on
the TV and see if it works..
I have the same TV and what is happing is the TV has 2 recievers in it to allow the PIP, So you have a power pack gone on 1 reciever the other is working, Your set has 2 power packs,1 for each receiver.
I had both of mine go, 150$ a piece to have fixed, good luck.
Brian: Have you just tried to unplug the A/V for an hour or two and then re-plug the power back in and try turning it off to see if this 'power off tactic' cures the problem? you probabily need to change the input, find the input button, when you hit it you should get a box on the screen, with inputs, highlight diferent ones and hit select- untill you get pick back, thats what my sugestion would be
Try a "hard restart" , which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, then replugging it after 4 hours have passed. This technique helps to reprogram the electronics of the TV.
