Can you tell me if an ordinary person might be able to change this relay or if should be done by a tech? If my husband was able to replace it himself, where might we purchase this relay and maybe a hint to where it is located. Thanks for much any help you can provide us. This is the 3rd time we would have to have it repaired in the last 3 years. Talk about frustrating.

This model like most of these sets uses up to 3 mechanical relays; they are black and square (follow power cord into set) and have a history of either opening or not when in use---I have seen several where it would not shut off or turn on etc where you could tap on the relay and the set would work.. The only other reason would be a bad solder connection in the same area---tap and the set works and it is either the relay or a bad solder connection.
The click is the relay shutting off and points to where your problem is.
If you have questions comment here and I will help.
There are a few things that you would need to know first, like is your set shutting down after the relay clicks, or no relay click. Also did you do a self test on this set. Press the menu and Device/input button at the same time for 5 seconds, This should give you a two digit code. What is the Code? It could be a number of things that cause the set to shut off after powering up. Check the code first, because this tell a tech what area the problem is in. If you want to change things I would guess by saying check the fuses F9A04 and 05 also change the capacitor C9a60.
Unit is telling you something is wrong with circuit. LED pilot flashes when malfunction is detected. Power supply shuts unit down to prevent further damage and/or fire. Leave off and seek pro/tech check out
If the picture is playing fine and you notice that the background is getting more and more red, until it is too red and the set shuts down, it could be that the red screen control is set just a bit too high. If this is the case, you can probably correct this yourself. If you are watching a perfect picture and then it suddenly flashes a very bright red, with thin red lines in the pictureand then shuts down, it usually means that the red picture tube has developed a short in it, between the cathode and heater. A good tech might be able to remove the short by arcing, but if the short persists then the red tube will have to be replaced. Either way, this is something that should only be done by a qualified tech.
