Did you record the material using SonicStage or a USB connection? If you did, you will have to erase this material using the same program. You won't be able to do it with the MD.

My sony md player wont read HI mini discs

The 480 is not designed to read HI MDs. If I remember right, it can read them as regular discs.

You can always purchase a HI-MD recorder, if that is important to you.

Unfortunately you've done all that you can. The unit is broken and parts are unavailable, even if they were, portable MD players were always fiddly and labour intensive to repair.

It's not all bad news though: as they're obsolete technology there are millions of perfectly good ones lying around unused and unwanted. Every single bit of minidisc equipment which I own has come from my local FreeCycle and Freegle groups, either as a response to an offer or via a request (but note that all such groups usually insist that you must make an offer before you can post a request, but there's no restriction on replying to offers already made).

How to transfer music from mini disc to computer

John,
Don't be jealous, just join in with the popular digital stage. (I still have my 10inch, 7in reel - reels, 160 cassettes, 300 Albums yes lp's , 25 mini disc and a large array of CDs yes about 75% is now on my 30gb Iriver) which is portable hard drive ....you too can (if your mini disc is a net version, which can connect to pc via optical this will save you alot of time)...if not we are talking real time...which can be fun too (I just finish recording 400 vhs movies to DVD..it was a new years resolution, recorded 1 -2 movies everyday after work)...so keep the mini disc in working order too...and a suggestion sony walkman x series 32gb or apple ipod touch 32 gb

Erasing an MD after "TR Protect" has been set.

I figured it out!! Initialize! Connect your MZ-N505 to a PC with the USB port. You'll need a USB A to mini B cable.Using the SonicStage software from Sony Support. You can then click the Transfer tab at the top of the screen. Select NetMD. All the current tracks on the disc should appear in the right hand window. At the bottom right of that window click Device/Media info. A dialog should pop up allowing you to Initalize (erase) the disc. Whew! I also bought a bunch of used Mini Discs that I wanted to record over. I ran into the same "TRProtect" message. Now I can use all these discs! Hope this helps. Have fun.

Transfer music from Mini Disk back to Computer

Unfortunately, there is no way to transfer music from a sony mini-disc player to a computer other than playing it through your sound card and recording it. Sony specifically disabled this ability to dissuade consumers from transferring music from one person to another, and this is one of the reasons that Mini Disc Players did not take off.

Hi MD recording

check out your sharing options on windows media player, DRM can watermark the tracks and make them unusable by other users, or even yourself.
Default is with copy protection, lookmin tools>options>rip music. Almost all audio programs have some version of this available, and only one fair use copy can be made.
