Check the two pin power plug on the back panel.
These units have a common problem on the power board where a regulator overheats and finally blows. Sometimes even before it blows it will take out an internal fuse. If the power board is faulty the repair is easy for an engineer and not too expensive.

    Thanks for your solution.
However my Panasonic wont power on when switched on>I have tried a different two pin lead>replaced the internal fuse and the fuse in plug too.

    Hello

If the unit is completely dead even though you have changed the two fuses and the power lead, it will almost certainly mean there is a power board problem. Either there is a break in the connection between the power board and the mother board, or there is a break in the printed circuit on the power board due to it being burnt out (this could be repaired), or the regulator has blown and will need replacing.

You will need to obtain an STRG 6353 regulator. These are easily available from online stores. You can then take the regulator and a few instructions I will give you to a local repairer and they should be able to fix it. Better still, if you can use a soldering iron you can fix it yourself.

Remove the power board from the unit. It is quite easy to remove but make sure the machine is unplugged from the wall power socket before touching anything. Also, be careful when disconnecting the connector plugs and strips from the board so they are not damaged. Take a look for any areas that look darkened by overheating and are burnt. Check the printed track to see if there are any breaks where there shouldn't be. If necessary these can be bridged with wire.

    Follow my full instructions here>

The procedure is for the DMR E55, but the E50 is similar. This will almost certainly bring your unit back to life.

My Panasonic DMR-E50 wont read anything ....

hi there,
there could be a few reasons for this, but the most likely is that the laser has gone in it, ie... not reading any discs. it could also just be a loose cable or connector inside the recorder. the only way to know for sure is to open it up and see i'm afraid :( if its the laser, you will have to get it replaced i'm afraid. Hope this helps
