I am trying to restore my inspiron b 130 in factory settings however the instructions i have are turn on computer start pushing f8 to advanced boot options then repair your computer to dell factory...

When its a computer that is using the windows XP you wont have that option .. Its a different option to restore to the factory settings

Use the following things
Dell has a default partition on the computer and you can install with the same..
If you have windows vista on the computer then tap F8 when the computer turns on and then you will be able to see the advanced boot options.. Select repair my computer.. In the repair my computer screen select the dell factory image restore...
Your computer will go through the installation and it will be up and running...
If you have windows Xp then you have to turn on the computer and when the dell logo appears you have to simultaneously press control and the F11key.. You will be able to reinstall the OS in this way..

If you are not able to get into this option then there might be no restore partition availlable
In that case you have to reinstall using the disc

I need to reset my Dell Inspiron B130 to factory setting

Using PC Restore in Windows XP or Media Center
new_notice.jpg Notice: Restoring the original factory image erases ALL existing data. This includes files, folders, programs, drivers, E-mails, photos. Before performing a PC Restore, back up all personal files. If you do not back up your personal files, the data will be lost.
1 Turn on the computer.
2 When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.
3 In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.
4 When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, click Confirm, or press <Tab> to highlight Confirm and then press <Enter>.

The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.

When the restore process is complete, the following message will appear:
The system recovery process was successful.
5 Click Finish or press <Tab> to highlight Finish and then press <Enter> to restart the computer.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
