Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Kenmore series 80, model 110-25842400, and serial number CR3353550 washing machine. I hadn't heard the machine work before the problem, and my wife said it was not working right (would fill with water and would not agitate or spin). I checked and I could hear the motor running but was not doing agitate or spin, I removed the pump and motor and found the drive coupler was broken so I replaced that and then run a test wash. It filled with water and and run the wash agitate perfectly. It should have then paused to reverse the motor, and then do neutral drain and then spin while pumping the rest of the spin water. Instead it just reversed the motor quickly and then started to run in a very slow spin and pumping water for about a minute and a half making a rapid clicking noise and then the clicking would stop and it would then spin up to correct speed and finish pumping water and spin correctly. Rinse would start the same way, loading water and doing rinse agitate correctly, but finishing that cycle it again quickly started spinning very slowly and pumping out water for about a minute and a half and then stopped clicking and sped up to normal spin cycle speed and finished correctly. I couldn't tell where the noise was coming from, so I removed the agitator and again tested, and the noise was coming from below the tub so I removed the pump and tested the cycles and the clicking noise was coming from the motor, and there was a slight **** in the motor with every click and it would do this about a minute and a half and sounding like a relay trying to start motor while it was running slow, and then stopped the clicking and sped up to spin speed. Clutch and brake appeared to be working correctly. Could this be the timer or the transmission, and is there any way to test without just changing parts until it works correctly? Thanks.

I couldn't find any problem in the wiring harness or any of the connectors, or on the connections in the control panel area. I did test with all speed settings and the problem remains constant at all settings, don't know if that means anything. Could a defective timer be sending commands to do neutral drain and spin at the same time? Could that explain the clicking of the motor and no neutral drain, just starting to spin immediately? Thanks for your help.

I remember when i was on a job with my father back in 1992 and there was a clicking noise coming from the motor. For this problem we had it happen to be the capacitor to the motor. Maybe it might be for yours as well. See if you can get the capacitor checked out from the nearby parts store or a electrician friend. There is also a capacitor testing meter that can tell you if it can hold the microfareds or tell you if it is shorted, grounded or open.

And if not it may as well be the timer...

Also, try this... take the pump off the motor and the motor off the trans... put the motor on the floor then run the machine in agitate and then try spin cycle...

is there any place nearby that will test your motor?

in the repair manual it tell you how to troubleshoot a motor with a meter. ( i dont have it anymore sorry)

    hope you get resolved

I have a Kenmore 70 series Washing machine top load model 110 serial number 82870120 . where is the lint trap located and how to take out to clean? clothes have a lot of lint after being washed.

It is likely that a tissue or paper product was included with the wash load. The series 70 does not have a lint trap. At the hose connection to the house drain lint has been known to build up restricting the emptying. This buildup would not introduce lint into the washer.

If the water temperature is very very cold and you use powder detergent it will not dissolve completely into the water and will leave a white residue on the fabrics.

Try running a short load in the washer allowing for ample water to rinse out the machine before the next wash load.

Kenmore washing machine 80 series won't spin or add water to the tub

Plug on motor (Multi-plug) may have a burnt out wire as it has different speeds. Remove and check the plug (top comes off). Any burnt wire needs to be cut back to clean copper and refitted into plug.
