Question about Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum

Brush roll not spinning

I have a Eureka Bagless Optima 431 Lightweight Upright that is not working. I took it apart to clean the brushroll and have tried to put it back together several times, but the brushroll will not spin anymore. Maybe I'm putting the belt in the wrong spot? Where can I find a diagram or something?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum. You have only 2 choices, the belt is either side driven belt or the belt is a center driven belt and the brushroll has one side that is for the belt and the side driven brushroll and the motor pulley must be in line in order to work properly, you may want to check the bearing holders, some vacs will mark the ends with words like NEW or USED and both have to be identical in order to fit right. Once you have the brushroll out it should spin if you set it on it’s side and if that happens you are OK, then watch the ends of the brushroll. Align the end with the motor pulley, B4 install the belt place the belt on the pulley side and install the brushroll. Then once the brushroll is in and spins properly, and then you can use a belt puller and stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track it in a straight line. How do you change the belt

The model that you have unscrews from the top. Unscrew the cover of the base to gain access to the belt and brushroll. Remove your brushroll and the broken belt. That vacuum takes a Eureka EXT-U belt. Use your brushroll to stretch the new belt into place. Let the brushroll click back into place and secure the cover back onto the base.

Reset button for Eureka 431 bagless upright???Where is it?!

If the red light is one the says "check brushroll" then you have to take it apart to find out what the problem is. It might be that the roll has too much stuff rapped around it so you have to take it out and clean. It could also be the rubber belt is not properly in place. Once you take the bottom off the belt should go on the far right side. Those are the only things i can think of. I have had mine for 3 years and have never seen a reset switch. Usually when my light comes on it is because there is a lot of hair rapped around my brush roll.

I need help changing belt on my Eureka Optima

If you're not familiar with how the vacuum is put together, taking it apart can be a real pain. Thankfully, most of the screws on the unit are the same size and type. For the ones you need to remove, a #2 Phillips should do the trick.

Unplug the vacuum, and flip it over, flat on the ground.

Press the silver button on the neck where the roller head attaches to the body and pull the head off. This isn't completely necessary but it makes it easier to work on.

Remove the 12 screws holding the case together. There will be 2 smaller (I think) screws by where the head swivels. Keep track of those.

Once ALL the screws are removed, the case should be loose and pretty easy to remove.

Flip it back over and carefully move the top cover to the side.

If you're looking at the piece head on as if someone were vacuuming facing you, the belt side of the brushroll should be on your right.

Remove the far side (non belted side) of the brushroll first by lifting it straight up.

The belt should be slack enough to remove the belted side of the brushroll and replace the toothed belt.

When reinstalling the brushroll, stretch the belt a little and put that side back first. Trying to get the belt side in after doing the far end takes too much effort.

Make sure the belt is tracking straight by rotating the brushroll and adjusting the belt as needed.

Since it's all opened up you may want to give it a good cleaning too.

Reverse the rest of the steps to put it back together.

Good luck!

Belt number is 74376, there should be screws on the bottom, take those out and the top comes off, or the top and bottom come apart. You will want to clean evrything so the brush roll will roll easily.

Suction switch

Leave the thing off for about 30 mins, let it cool. Take that time to clean out all of pieces. Its a pretty simple machine, but has many suction points. Mine killed around Christmas time. Flippin pine needles got caught everywhere, clogged the whole works and it just died. Though she was toast, but its back in action now. I really like this vacuum for how much I paid for it.
