What exactly is transmission slippage? I am not real good on car lingo and have always been a little confused by what this meant. My understanding is the you hit the gas and the engine revs but car does not move till sometime later. Is this right or is there more to it? Any answers appreciated.
You got it right. It usually happens over time as your mileage goes up. The clutch's in your trans wear and start to slip. Low trans fluid will speed up the process, so will long periods of spinning when stuck.
To prolong the life of those clutch's you should periodically change the trans fluid and filter. It will tell you in your owner's manual when you should do it and considering the price of a transmission overhaul it's a good idea. The same holds true for your timing belt.
Hope this helps.
